The Tagtorial and Guides Thread -- HELP FOR CADETS HERE
By request, I'm zapping this big post. I was actually asked to split it, but looking it over most of the stuff here is outdated, and most of the updated versions are on Keenspace Gear, which is where you should be going for help anyway, so...

I've got autokeenlite.cgi uploaded to the webspace, now how do I make it do it's magic?

I'm afraid it won't work. You need to be able to run cgi scripts to use it.TheBladeRoden2 wrote:I've got autokeenlite.cgi uploaded to the webspace, now how do I make it do it's magic?
And keenspace does not allow cgi.
Autokeenlite is intended for people that don't have a keenspace site, but want something that operates in a simmilar way.
If you want to add 1 new page manually, the easiest way is to:
upload it to public_html/comics (or public_html/images)
and edit the public_html/index.html to link to the new image.
If you want to add more pages (ie. if siteadmin, and auto-keen are down for long) you might want to look here
There's a html generating program I made once.
But be carefull using it, it has never been successfully tested.
Make sure you check the html files it generates. Check where the links lead to. I think I had /d/ and /comics/ directories mixed up.

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

You just put them where you want the actual thing in your template.html pages, which should be in the workspace folder.
For example, imagine if I wanted to put my comic in a page; I'd do this.
Now lets imagine that my banner is my comic. In affect, what happens after I put the template.html in my /workspace folder, and trigger an update, I get this in my public_html folder, which is what you see on your site:
---
The Jaded, An online comic by Ping

And that's it, really.

Code: Select all
<h1>***comic_name***, An online comic by Ping</h1>
<p>***todays_comics***

With the regular non-lite auto-keen.TheBladeRoden2 wrote:so how are the indextemplate.html and all them ***author*** ***yesterday*** tags supposed to be used? if not with autokeenlite?
You just put indexemplate, and dailytemplate with tags into /workspace/
and autokeen will generate all the real .html files (replacing the tags with respective html code), and put them in /public_html/
If you are on keenspace, you already have autokeen.
Autokeen-lite, is for people that are not on keenspace, but want something that emulates the autokeen.

What do I do when I try to get a new password and it says "E-mail not sent, missing e-mail"? Kisai's old thread about it has been deleted. I think I've finally figured out that this is my problem but I can't figure out how to fix it now as Kisai's thread is gone.
Thanks!
EDIT: Fixed! I can login again! I tried to kiss my sister. She wouldn't let me.
I will stop my constant help me postings now!
Thanks for the support and help, everyone. Especially Kisai for putting up with me.
