There are a total of 28 pages. That's too many for the sampler. Your job will be to vote for the pages that will appear in the sampler and in what order they will appear.

The rules:

1. You may list a minimum of 20 pages up to a maximum of 28 pages of content. The content MUST have a page count divisible by 4. It is impossible to include everyone so instead, try for the most kick ass combination of pages that make the most sense together. Feel free to include extras (see below).
2. If you have non-comic submissions (rants, introduction text, etc.) PLEASE include them! If you have a design for the copyright page, please include it. Table of contents? Include it, PLEASE!
3. The cover is reserved. The front cover will have the cover image. The inside front cover will have copyright info and a list of the comics in the sampler.
4. If a submissions has multiple pages: you must include all the pages, you may not change the order of the pages and you must group those pages together.
   --- special: for my comic you may choose the 1 page ad, the 2 page comic or all three pages together.
5. REMEMBER: Chris Crosby has disallowed making this a "Keenspace Sampler." We can use keenspace.com in the web links but that's it. So, no plugging Keenspace directly. No howto's on how to get signed up.
6. If you have a name to suggest, include it.
7. Each time a comic gets listed it gets a vote. The comics with the most votes get included in the final sampler. I want you to specify an order so we can see what patterns develop. Whose submissions look best together.

Okay...I personally think that the list as you outlined is for your vote is a good choice Faub.

What I am most concerned with is that we get a good representative sampling of the comics that Keenspace has to offer and I believe that your list accomplishes that.

Alex and Ilia - It's troubling me a bit, though: style saves him but it's very sloppy

I don't have to vote for round 20, right? Because I lost count and because picking even more would be heart-breaking. They're good comics but I don't know if the reaction of the spoiled comicbook reader at sight of them would be so positive.

Cover:
I vote for Soap to finish her cover, it's just too good composition. If not, I vote for War to finish his second cover. Faub's cover looks like back cover more than front cover, even though it's got an info and all...

Having a back cover is a good idea. I did want to leave at least one page of the cover blank in case somebody desperately wanted to use comixpress or something like that and needed ad space. (The PDF won't be formatted for comixpress, but that's something we can work on later.)

The number of pages really only needs to be divisible by 4. Each page will have a front and a back and fold in the middle for the staples. If we only had 23 pages, the last page of the book would be blank. Also, less than 20 pages and the books gets too thin, more restrictive. I wanted to have enough room for as many artists and possible to be included. If you think, giving the submissions, that 20 is too many list the comics you want to see included and explain why the others should not be.

Page Combinations:
Always present:
- Front cover.
- Front inside cover.
- Back inside cover.
- Back cover.

Number of Content pages:
- 4
- 8
- 12
- 16
- 20 <-- I would call this a minimum.
- 24 <-- this is about average for print comics.
- 28 <-- this is the maximum that comixpress will print for a minicomic.

I do see where submissions like Alex and Ilia aren't finished compared to the rest. Super Fight Fight, World Warp, Insanity for the Poor and Burgundy Comics Inc. are just line drawings. When compared to toned submissions like Desolation Angel Tango they look unfinished. On the other hand, Cortland looks fine but it's just a line drawing.

I included everyone because I could get it to fit, not because I thought all the comics fit well with the others. This is mostly because Burgundy Comics and others are in color and they don't translate well to B&W.

I think less than 20 would be too small. I did name less than 20 but that's only because it was hard for me to pick. However, I think submissions I didn't name should get in too, because they represent Keenspace as well. Giving a keenspace sempler and offering only slick, pro-looking pages would be a kind of cheat (and then dissapointment for someone who visits Keenspace based on the book and realizes not every comic is drawn like FAUB or Twice destined). (This is where I give my part because IMO mcDuffies sample isn't particulary well-drawn either) SuperFightFight sample, in that maneer, is a good example of a certain group of comics in which actually pretty fresh and good read can be found. I am concearned about the first reaction of a man who grabs the book to such comics, tho. But on the other hand, if he graps a book and sees such comic next to FAUB and such, the general reaction might be better because he'll be well prepared to what he'll find in comics.

Yeah, that got me doubting too. On one hand you got comics that are drawn by a skillful hand, but it just seems that there's not much effort put into it. By this I mean, A&I submission (as Pin admitted himself) but also CJ Burgundy's submission and IVStudio's submission. They simply look too short of drawing, something's amiss in both submissions. Submissions for IFtP and Pirate Queen Marianne are pretty simplicistic too, but they somehow lie down quite nicely, those styles feel comfortable with less lines and details, which I can't say for aforementioned submissions.
I mean, it doesn't feel particulary fair to submissions where obviously a good effort was spent but which didn't come up so slick in the end, like Phactorri's.

Um...My new computer is getting re-hooked up this weekend. I'll have a better program to edit and uh... I think I lost the large image. Can I redo that this weekend? It's a pretty embarrassing image compared to the other stuff submitted.

I would be fine with you replacing the original drawing since you've lost the large version anyway. I think the same goes for RPin. If he's willing to finish his page he can just replace the submission he already has and it will be fine. If anybody else has issues with their submissions, you have until the end of the voting session to make corrections. Just replace the comics you have, though. No new pages.

The idea behind this sampler is to point people to some of the great, less well known comics on the web.

Unlike the huge, well-known webcomics like Megatokyo, Penny Arcade and Player Vrs. Player, most webcomic artists and writers cannot make a living with their comics. There are, in fact, hundreds of thousands of webcomics online and the audiences available for each comic are small. This sampler is an effort to get the word out about a few of the less well known comics and to show off the quality and diversity that is online comics.

Originally, this sampler had another purpose but we aren't allowed to mention it here. The mind control rays didn't work anyway.

So, please give our comics a look. We know and can't expect you to like all of them but, who knows, you might find something you didn't expect.
