Its a trap! No, don't eat the muffins!
Yup, it's a trap. Vile's purpose is destroying the forum.
Helping people is just a way to avoid getting banned too soon. You know, it makes admins wonder:"hmm he spams a bit..., but at the same time he's really helpfull"
right now he's increasing amounts of spam, and slowly decreasing the amounts of help.
And then Ba-Zang!
Keffria wrote:Even if we were to do away with the post counts, the real trolls would still be up to ther crazy shenanigans (whee~!). Not knowing how many pieces of spam they've posted won't affect their adding more.
Precisely.

And I'm two thumbs up on the idea of ranks beeing granted for extraordinary performance... unfortunately it's quite impossible with no moderators.

Way to go Bob!
Bob... is there something you'd like to tell us?
Anyways high post rate is not a bad thing. High annoing posts rate is a bad thing.

Then maybe we should start making requests for moderators. Active Moderators.

I think we tried that before, a couple of times, but to no avail.

BTW, I'm not sure I'd like to be a moderator... that would make my rank "moderator" and I couldn't run for "uber-commander" at 20k posts ;)

BTW, either it's just me, or the banner in your sig is broken. (I think there's a spacebar-character before ".jpg")

Alright.

How about on a case by case system?

Those who appear to be trying to raise their post count get rank reduction and their counter reset (if that's possible with PHP, I don't know).

Hmm... I might be considered a newbie, only having been here a week, but I think 'newbie' status all depends on how well you can mix in with the current crowd. If you still stand out way too much, then you're probably still a newbie. I don't think post count really has much say in it. There are strings that encurage one word posts, like the Q&A thread, and the Free Word Association thread. (Both of which I've been active in, but only because it's fun. ^_^) That's probably part of why my avarage post rate is like 18 posts a day... I'm also pretty sociable, as I've mentioned before, and I sometimes tend to get into real-time conversations on the board, where we post one right after another like in a chat room. That might be part of it too. I don't think I'm annoying. If anything, I'm just a very active 'extra.'

Aye.

But if not fitting into this crowd makes me a newbie, I'd gladly be labelled a newbie forever.

I think that I could pretty much be labelled a "lurker". Doesn't post much, but reads most everything.

Over 2000 posts is not much?

Damn. I guess that means we all have a long way to go.

18? More like 28.

Yes, looks like looks like it.

Maybe just a tad annoying. But quite funny at the same time- you don't have to stop or anything, just use some moderation. Less quantity, more quality.

If you feel _too_ silly posting something, maybe you shouldn't? Think twice.

But if I had less internet time than I have, and had to wade through 5 page long conversation between two strangers (who were obviously having great time), trying to find the "cool parts", it would be more annoying.

A keen chatroom! That's brilliant!

Actually, someone could just register an IRC channel...

A chat room probably wouldn't work. Too few people spread over too many time zones.
You could give the nightstar network a shot. Cartoonists already outnumber normal people there.
