I agree. The fight scenes were definitely the best part of the movie, producing several eyes-wide "did you see that" moments for me, something that hasn't happened in quite some time.

While I'm here...

This may be just as good a place to ask this as any, so here goes: Why does everyone what the ring so bad? Yes it's actively trying to make people want it, and the invisibility thing is cool, but what about it makes it potentially kingdom-saving as many of the characters seem to think it is? What exactly can it do? Sauron wasn't invisible when he wore it, but the king who didn't throw it in the lava was (FOTR-extended version).

I've read the hobbit (easy read) and FOTR (took me almost a year to get through - short attention span I guess), but I know there are many people here who have read the series several times, and I'm hoping you can offer some insight into this.

Actually I wondered about that myself.
I was quite surprised when it turned out the ring that Bilbo found was "the ring", I thought it would be another one.

But I figure the ring can give you "power" in at least a couple of ways:
1) raise your mana level. Quite useless if you're not a wizard, but if you are...
2) ESP and stuff, particulary some kind of mental link with ring wraiths.
May be used for comunication (if you are Sauron), and for detecting them (if you are not)
3) give you power to influence people, when you're the Sauron. -right now the ring itself can influence people, and it tries to return to Sauron's hand, guess what happens when it can finally focus on making them fight for him.
4) raise your "luck"

More ideas welcome.

Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

Well, if I remember right, didn't Sauron make the ring himself? Maybe it has different affects on him, or maybe that armor he was wearing didn't turn invisible, even though he did, you just couldn't see it cause of the armor. Actually, from what I could tell from the movie (No, I haven't read the books, so I'm not an expert on any of this, it's just guessing) the ring didn't actually make you 'invisible' it shifted you to another plane of existance or at the very least merged you with another plane. Maybe that plane is where the power comes from. Kinda like how on his home planet, Superman was just some average Joe, but on earth, he had ungodly powers. Maybe being part of this other plane gives you the powers from it, which makes you more powerful in the mortal one. I dunno. I also think it's pretty obvious the ring has the power to sway people. It like hypnotises them into doing whatever you say. But it also makes the wearer hungry for more power, which is the double edge.

Mhh ... one simple question: What's so sexy about Legolas?

ALL girls I know love him. And I can't understand it.

Because they know that no one like that really exists. It's the whole 'knight and shining armor' deal. People want what they can't have. That's why men put super-model posters up in their garages.

He's also what a lot of people would refer to as a "Live-Action Bishonen". I think it has something to do with the long, light colored hair.

Sheeesh. Well, I like elves. I often played elves in RPGs. All my youth I drawed elves ... but Legolas is in my eyes nothing but a well-promoted marketing strategy. He looks 'sweet', fits perfekt into this bishonen-genre AND he's an elf. Yeah.

It's gotta have something to do with the pointy ears. I mean everyone loved Spock too. Coincidence? I think not...

Hmm .. I loved Spock, too. But not because of the ears. Look at the alternatives ... Kirk? Bones? Ok, Scotty was cool ... :P

Yes, but Scotty was too old to be a sex symbol. He was just the 'cool scottish uncle' figure. Actually, I liked the Dr. He was funny.

Yeah but Bones was NO sex symbol. Chekov and Sulu either. So the people concentrated on Spock.

I think it's the "bishonen" part: "beautiful man" by definition.

Nah .. (imho) there is a difference ... sweet and bishonen are not the same *g* 'sweet' means for me there IS something masculine left in his appearance - and bishonen guys often seem to be homeboys.

*ducks and runs* *loves masculinity* *heh* *and uniforms*

Well, I'm a girl, and I did not fawn over Legolas (OR Orlando Bloom) throughout all the movies.

Really liked Sam as a character, though, and Pippin, but not really Legolas (Especially with those BLACK eyebrows....it throws me off when a total blonde has black eyebrows....but then again, all the blonde elves were like that). IMHO, anyway.

I don't think I even had a favorite character. I liked the movies just for the story and special affects. I honestly wasn't all that fond of any of the characters in particular though. If I had to pick one, though, it would probably have been Gandalf.

Gandalf rocks. I'd make him use more F/X though when he was still grey, he was a fire wizard afterall, where were the fireballs when he fought Saruman?

And Mc. Coy... heh, "he's dead Jim", he used to say that in almost every episode.

And then there's the one where he said "Jim's dead."

Yeah. Even when it wasn't nessicary.

*watches crewmember get cut in half by an alien*

Kirk: "Dear god!"
Bones: "He's dead Jim."
Spock: "I think that would be the logical deduction..."
Bones: "Don't play your Vulcan mind games on me!"
Kirk: *is busy killing the alien*
Spock: "Captain, I think it would be in our best intrest to leave this place."
Kirk: *finishes beating the alien with a large rock* "I think that's... the best idea you've had all day.... Mr. Spock" *whips out his communicator* "Three to beam up, Mr. Scott"
Scotty: "We've been havin' engine problems, Cap'n. I can't keep makin' these sudden pick-ups for ye, lad."
Kirk: "I think it's safe to say... we won't be coming back here any time soon."
Bones: "You got that right."
*they all beam up and it goes to a commercial*

Man.. memories...
