Bah. Halo's just a first-person shooter. Or Halo 1 was, anyway. It wasn't anything really new, kind samey and plagerised numerous sources - not least of which Ringworld - for it's plot. Anyone who games on a PC would've seen most of it many times before.

Out of the choices to hand, I'd have to pick Halflife although I haven't seen it yet. Normally, however, I'd agree with Jim.

Actually, I'm quite looking forward to the new Tiger woods 2005....
Or something....

Seriously though, I'd probably pick Half life 2.

I mean. I liked System Shock 2... but lack of the puzzles and cyberspace...
SS1 rocked really hard because of them, if they were is SS2 the game would be like, legendary. Without them, it was just a good game.

Yes, Halo is just a shooter, but what a shooter it is. It never tried to be anything but a shooter. Halflife is also just a shooter, and virtually identical to Halo: lots of action with a scripted storyline, both of which knocked my socks off first time around. Halo's claim to fame is not on the PC but rather on the console world, where nothing like it had come before and all pretenders to its crown have fallen short.

For me, Halo 2 is the game to wait for since I won't have to hideously upgrade my Xbox just to play (which is the reason I bought the Xbox) nor have to deal with cheaters on Live (Internet) play, since a modded Xbox cannot access Live and cheaters are quickly pointed out by the community and actively shunned/kicked out of games. I can also have some friends pop in and play split-screen (I own a 31" just for that purpose); something which cannot be done on a PC without either a) major planning beforehand, or b) major chaos setting up. Not to mention a) doesn't always eliminates b). Nothing sadder than having someone show up with a system that struggles to run Tetris yet insists it can play Doom 3.

SS1 I missed, and SS2 I missed too because of the upgrade issue. A friend who has it, though, told me it sucked that all weapons eventually disintegrated. No, my money for revolutionary FPS gameplay goes to Deus Ex; each situation has at least two different ways to be solved and it's really up to you how well you do them. In Halo and Half Life, you had to solve things the one way the designers had tought it up or you couldn't proceed.

So, bring on the Master Chief!
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Halo 2 looks pretty good, but so far I'm enjoying Half-Life 2. Well, Counter-Strike: Source, anyway. The physics are pretty incredible.

EDIT: Yeah, and System Shock 2 rocks hard.

What?!? Half-Life is nothing like Halo. All you do in Halo is run and shoot. Half-Life contains a plethora of puzzles to work out. It's got a much wider variety of weapons and enemies. It ranges across a wide variety of environments. It has a much more complex plot, that isn't borrowed from a half-dozen books.

...personally, I think Perfect Dark (N64) beats the crap out of Halo in terms of gameplay, both single- and multiplayer.

I think Halo is fun, but it's not that special, and there are a lot of games that are a lot more fun.

I've never gotten to play the original System Shock, sadly, though not for lack of trying. It's almost like every single copy of the game completely disappears whenever I try to look for it.

I tried playing Halo and got severe motion sickness.

I watched someone else play Half-Life and got severe motion sickness.

I rode in the backseat of a PT Cruiser and got mild motion sickness.

I am a sad, pathetic little man.
