what? I'll have you know, I'm a fan of both Strawberry Shortcake and PA. In fact, I still have that comic saved to my hard drive....
So what you're saying is that for the sake of discussion you'll post the comic in question... how terribly kind of you. The other Keenspacers are wrong, you're not very mean at all.

A decent informative start for people interested in Fair Use laws. (note this is US-based law here)

BTW, that page I found in google says that the loophole used against PA was not that it would hurt the oryginal thing.
Apparently it didn't qualify as a parody, because they didn't parody SC, they used her to parody something else.

Unfortunately, to prove it was fair use, they'd have to go to court. And that costs. And it's always a gamble.

And the comic would likely have to be taken down while it went to court for a few years.

Sigh. Again. With risk of ressurection a discussion, I got to point at this.
PDI wrote: Jop's example, posted for the purpose of disproving my point that the discussion was based on rumor and hearsay, was itsself rumor and hearsay.
I disagree. It was drawing conclusions based on a few actual facts that we have (including things that were posted on both sites even if brief) using just a pure logic and common sence. Those conclusions were actually very tame and cautious, and the fact that they don't go in favour of SC is a totally different topic.

[qoute]I have not stated that I have no opinion on the matter -- and I would be lying if I had.[/quote]
So, what, you don't have an opinion? You're some kind of robot or what? I can understand if you're not interested in topic so you didn't bother to think about it, but you obviously are, but you refuse to have an opinion...
It's only human to have an opinion! It's human to share that opinion with
friends, for instance on some forum. Of course, it's human to make mestakes and wrong judgements here and there. Do you actually claim that you never make mestakes?

Suppose you go to party with intention to get drunk. But, you know, some boring guy hooked on you and keeps telling you that drink is bad for your health and that you should stop it. But, you know, you really want to get drunk, supposedly your girlfriend left you or you lost your job, and you really just want to forget all that for just one evening, but this guy keeps telling you that it's bad and you shouldn't do it. And every time you raise a glass, he says: "That sip is gonna destroy your liver". And you don't really drink often, you know that in your entire life you won't drink enough alchohol to damage any of these organg, and he still keeps taking about that theoretical possibility of your liver being damaged, but you don't even feel like drinking anymore, because you know if you do, he'll repeat that story about how alchocol is bad once again, and you keep telling him: "Ok, you told me what you had once, I decided not to listen to you, now leave me alone" but he just won't.
Guess which guy are you.

:( ahh man, I just got a notice in the mail. I'm being sued by the producers of Baywatch for having a main, blond, busty character named CJ. They tell me if I legel chance my name to something else, get a breast reduction or dye my hair, they'll drop the lawsuit......

ok, I'm joking, but I felt like jumping on the smartass bandwagon.... so sue me

Sorry to point this out, McD, but I'm afraid you somehow misread what PDI wrote up there.

That statement by PDI actually says that he HAS an opinion. The syntax is a little garbled, but what he essentially said was "I never said that I didn't have an opinion. If I had said that I had no opinion, I would have been lying."

But enough about me being an English major geek. Let's get back to bowling for copyrights. Watch this 7-10 split for a Juicinator, a Turnip Twaddler, and the rights to Tito, the fourth Jackson.

Umm, oops? :o

The fact that under the Fair Use Rule of the United States Copyright Act of 1976, they can't touch me. haha" -Brian Clevinger, of 8-bit Theatre's
copyright notice at the very bottom...UNTIL coincidentally *this* ad I made started circulating around the net:
http://www.pockybot.com/gallery/ad1.jpg

Now the small copyright notice says "Copyright 2001 - 2004 Brian Clevinger. Some images are property of Square-Enix."
heh.

If 8Bit Theatre can get away with violating copyright laws and make money off it, and everybody turns a blind eye by saying "oMG teh WriTing!111" then it's pretty much the wild fucking west as fair as 'rules' and whatnot.

Jeeze. Who's crazy enough to read about that?

I'm particularly more interested in hearing if there were any cases involving artists trying to copyright drawing styles and if yes, what were the outcomes.

Is that even possible or not?

Okay, maybe I misread it. Would you be willing to go over it with me and point out which bits are verified facts? It's likely I am unaware of insider knowledge here. Though, it's still hearsay *to me* (that is, it is me taking someone's word for it), it may not be to him.
