Why? WHY, I ask!

Post by Nishichi27 »

Actually, I just wanted to ask the general population - what's the reason for doing your webcomic? I know this has been asked before, but now I want to know, do you do it for popularity? Obviously you'd have to do it for a LITTLE popularity, because that's the whole point of posting something on the web. I mention this because I've noticed that some oldbies flame newbies for only doing their comic for fame (even though they won't get any), but I've thought about it and I guess it's an interesting aspiration.

On the other hand, maybe you're doing it to improve your writing/drawing/coloring/etc. skills. That's my main reason, I'll say that.

And then, there's always the ol' post-it-because-your-friends-told-you-to ploy. I guess that's not too bad, unless you don't want to do a comic but they're forcing you to... O_O;;

Lastly, you could be doing a comic to annoy people. (I only expect one vote on this, people, because we all know why Vile does one....to annoy us all! You said so yourself, Vile, so don't hurt me).

Oh yeah, and "other".

I do my comic because I enjoy it, but frankly a little popularity would be nice...

I mean seriously, does anyone even read the thing?

Hmm... wouldn't that be under "popularity".

I guess it could go under Improving skills.

Because it was one of those things that needed doing. The only babes I've managed to attract have either been under 18 or over 40. Sigh. If I was doing this for popularity I would have opened my veins in a bathtub long ago.

i went for other... but back in the early days of the whole process there was a hoping for popularity. 120 pages later and it sure improved my skills, and it still is (in writing, drawing, yadda yadda). but the thing that really keeps me at it is that i love comics, i love drawing comics and telling stories through that medium (despite the frustration inherent in the time that takes and the general lack of recognition of the artform itself). and it's also a form of cheap therapy.

I just really like writing and drawing my comic, soooo I guess I do it just because it's a lot of fun. And it keeps me from being too bored ever.

My reasons should be obvious enough . . . but that apparently hasn't meant squat. You may get annoyed, but I think that's only because you aren't being patient.

Of course I have the Slave Driver to thank for this being online. She suggested it originally and notified me once Keen was allowing new members.

Her name is not "Danny".

There should be "for fun" option there...

I have to admitt I started my comic hoping for instant popularity, fame, money and babes  . Don't laugh at me.
In my defense I must say it only took me about 4 pages to realize it's not that simple.

I soon changed my goal to "Improving my Skills", and it worked. Perhaps it worked too much, I still think of my comic as a kind of art practice, mostly because I'm too lazy to do any other practice.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

simple. I wanted an outlet for expression, after reading an article about some bigwigs daughter doing a promotion It hit me: "Radio"!

No wait, that's from "Working Girl"...

I realized that a comic would be a proper format for what I want to write. Realized I can't draw it though. So I've started a training comic to learn to draw.

Popularity? Well of course, that would be great. When I get to where I'm worrying more about script than artistic ability, I'll want all the popularity that fellatio can earn. I'll adopt a healthy regime of brown nosing and butt - kissing too. And begging. Pitifully. I fully intend to buy all my fans if possible, unless I can get a good lease rate.

Anyone who says different is lying. Or not human. Or a human under truth serum but delusional just to make this point difficult to state. Anywho, right now popularity isn't a concern until I can draw. I barely can so far. I'll get better though. Feels like about 2 years more maybe.

Might even take so long that everyone will have beards by then. Except maybe some of the male elves. It's genetic I think.

Nishichi, by the way I checked your comic and am blown away by the quality. You do the genre masterfully and professionally. I'm impressed and it makes me surprised (and depressed) that any amateur can draw that well. It's as good as my "Megazone 23" mag that's printed right to left and is completely unintelligible to me. I didn't expect it. I'm dismayed by the cuteness though. It's just all too happy for me. It would help if something would get violently gored to death. Just at random would be fine, even if it's an inert object like a rain barrel. The water gushing forth like precious bodily fluids draining away as the rain barrel dies. but that's just me.

I really wanted to read your tutorial on how to draw hands but it wasn't there. I did however go through the photoshop tutorials. It seems to apply to people who have better art work to start with than I do, but the scanning tips were good to know.

What's this thread about again? Sheesh I'm tired. I'll just tell myself there's always next year and see everyone at the party.

P.S. anyone notice that Purple Pussy isn't on the keenspot main page, but is still listed as being hosted? What up wit dat?

I started for the skillsssss, but I find that to improve, having an audience that spots and points out the mistakes you were too blind to see for you *cough* Yarpsdat *cough* helps greatly.

Of course before you can have that you need the audience, so popularity is important too.

Evil friends is also a factor. But just a minor one.

There are many reasons for my comic.
Of note though is the fact that those who know me are quick to say that I have a tendancy of being lazy, and a history of not finishing stuff I begin.
This is my chance to prove them wrong.

Another reason is that I'm convinced that it may increase my sex appeal.
