URL forwarding?

Post by Jameslong »

is there a way to forward my comicgenesis URL (jameslong.comicgenesis.com) to my new official site url (getvirtual.ca)?

i seem to remember that being an option with the new, non-operational siteadmin...

If your comic is now on another host then probably the easiest way to do this is to update your indextemplate with an announcement telling your readers to go to the new url and to updated their bookmarks accordingly. At the moment, url forwarding is not available.

thanks for the follow up, doc. i've had the announcement up for a while and according to the stats, looks like the readership of the old site is dwindling away accordingly.

Hmm... CG won't forward the URL itself, but you should be able to do it yourself on your indextemplate.html page with some code like this:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>The Comic Has Moved!</title>
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://www.newaddress.com"></HEAD>
<BODY>
Optional message that will flash for like half a second.
</BODY>
</HTML>
I've never tried it with my CG site, but I see no reason this shouldn't work.

I haven't tried it myself, but I have to agree, Tenma's suggestion ought to work. Just in case it isn't obvious, change the url inside:

Code: Select all

content="0;url=http://www.newaddress.com"
to whatever the new address is.
