A Tribe Called Jonas

A Tribe Called Jonas is a humor strip updated Mon-Wed-Fri, and is in a surrealist humor vein.
The comic has a eclectic cast of characters, and focuses on the random and bizarre.

Some of it's really nicely drawn, some of it's clearly a bit rushed.

The lettering is a bit messy, and makes it look very amateurish at times (like the title lettering though).

Some of the jokes are okay, some less so, pretty much like most comics. I'm not sure I'd say it was bizarre enough to be surreal, but it occasionally gets close to that. To give you an idea of what I think works, I thought "Mr President?" was almost very good (who was he supposed to be?), "Good Question" was probably the best one, no.17 was very nicely drawn though it seemed isolated as a short thing - you could have built up to that with a running gag about the "walls" - no.22 had a great last panel, though the build up dialogue was a bit dodgy - I didn't immediately know what that "Coyote's Body Shop" would be a garage - for some reason you have another no.22 after it though.

I really want to really like it - some elements of it are very good. If I were you I'd be a bit tougher on myself about what needs weeding out and I'd take a bit more time on the artwork every time, by going for a less ambitious upload schedule. But that's just me.

And I'd make the site look a lot nicer than it does at the moment - some of your button images are broken which is the first thing I'd fix.

Thank you for your advice! I feel my biggest problems right now is my schedule (in relation to coming up with jokes, working on the art, etc.), and my abilities on web design.

I agree that my lettering is sometimes sloppy. I just don't know how to use GIMP to letter the comics after scanning them in. I tried it before, and it just didn't feel right.

As for my website? I have no idea what I'm doing, to tell the truth. I am looking into Comicpress, in an effort to clean up the design.

The jokes are something I feel conflicted about. I 'm used to writing in a standup comedy routine, and designing jokes in a comic format is something I'm still getting used to.

Thank you again for taking the time to evaluate my comic. It is hard to find truly objective constructive criticism sometimes. I will be looking into fixing at least the more obvious mistakes.
(BTW: in "Mr. President?" the character who catches Steve was suppose to be Barrack Obama.)

Thank you!

Adding lettering by computer can be a nightmare, particularly if your comic looks very hand-drawn - I think you might just have to work on the handwriting. Try capitals, perhaps - they're a bit easier to keep consistent I think. There's often a thread or two on here about lettering, so you're not alone there.

Comic Press is very nice looking, but I always get the impression you need to really know what you're doing, and you'll be hosting it yourself. http://www.htmlgoodies.com has some good Primers for basic HTML and getting your page looking nice, if you want to keep the free hosting. I'm not bothering with my comicgenesis site anymore, but it's here if you want to look at it - http://evilflea.comicgenesis.com - it's just basic HTML, but it looks okay - flashy stuff is really really nice, but don't start shelling out too much for things before you know roughly how you want it to look - I'd advise getting the content right first. Feel free to look at the page source on your browser, and pinch any code you want.
