Image-File not found by Daily-Pages [solved]

Post by YKA »

I've updated both my dailytemplate.html and indextemplate.html with the same lay-out, featuring a Banner-Image under the title of the comics.
This works just fine with the Today's Page ( http://yka.comicgenesis.com/ ) but on the Every-other-days-Pages ( http://yka.comicgenesis.com/d/20071104.html ) the htmls can't seem to find the image-file of this banner ( which is of course under images/banner.gif , just like for the index.html, for which it works all right).
This is not urgent.
But I can't figure out why that is. So thanks a lot in advance to the person knowledgeable on this problem to keep me informed.

Indextemplate (Works):

Code: Select all

<td align="center" bgcolor="#000000"> <img style="width: 840px; height: 80px;" src="images/banner.gif" alt="Banner"></td>
Dailytemplate (Not Working):

Code: Select all

<td align="center" bgcolor="#000000"> <img style="width: 840px; height: 80px;" src="images/banner.gif" alt=""></td>
The only singular difference I can see is that you have alt information in the indextemplate but not in the daily template.

I'm not sure what we have here is anything more than your normal insanity here on ComicGenesis. Do this - edit the dailytemplate.html and put something in that alt tag. Then copy up your dailytemplate.html and do a full update.

The change to the template will tell CG to replace it in the public_html folder and the full update will rebuild all the archive html files.

There's no obvious reason why it doesn't work; so the solution is to just give it a quick kick and see if it corrects itself. :)

Hi Rkolter,
Thanks for your quick help.
I thought so, too.
So, I just exactly did what you suggested.
But alas, it is not so much better: There is now on the empty place of the still-not-found Banner-Image the Alt-Message "Banner". Quite logical. But still no image.
Why does it work smooth and nice for the Index-Page and absolutely not for the Daily-Pages?

D'oh. I'm being silly.

The indextemplate.html file becomes index.html, which is in the root of public_html, meaning it can FIND images/banner.gif

the files created from dailytemplate.html are stored in the /d/ directory off public_html, so images/banner.gif there goes to /d/images/banner.gif which obviously doesn't exist.

Change the entry in dailytemplate.html to

Code: Select all

src="http://yka.comicgenesis.com/images/banner.gif"
... and things should clear right up.

Great, Rkolter! It worked! And it looks just fine and exactly like I hoped it would.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks too, as well, not only for helping, but for helping so quickly, too. This is great.
Actually I thought it might be something like that. But I'm not fluent enough in those things to expand on my hints. And, of course, I thought that the ComicGenesis mystery friendly super-machine would take care of noticing what is where. Like it does for other stuff...
Anyway, this is a great host.
And you guys are very motivating in your support.
Thanks.
