hey there,
I've been hand painting my comic with uh.. - arcrylic (sp?) paint. (there's one colored by comp, it was faster at the time heh) anyway, I'm just wondering if theres any suggestions on how to maybe make the painting smoother (i'm actually not sure if thats the right word...)
Wow! How wonderful that you are painting the strip.
The background looks like watercolor.
What kind of paper/board are you painting on? I have successfully painted landscapes on bristol board with acrylic paint. I haven't done anything detailed like a strip, tho.
Are you stirring/shaking the pots before painting? If I have jars, I often stick the end of a paintbrush in the pot to make sure the medium is evenly mixed throughout.
Two thin layers of color with a flat brush would probably be more even coverage. I would edge with a detail brush then fill with a flat brush.
The reason the background looks like water color is baecause I watter it down LOTS then paint it on with a sponge it's fun haha, And in truth, I'm just using regular printer paper I'll try bristol board, I've never really thought about it, but thats for the idea.
Oh oh! Post a page here and let's see when you can!
BTW, a cheaper alternative to bristol board (which is also great for pen and ink) might be plain old cardstock. A good way to see if this would work is to take an old greeting card, draw a figure on the inside and paint it up. Most of them are printed on generic cardstock.
I may get out some paint and try to do a cartoon panel, too. How fun!
