No. My image files will always be too large, and I doubt people reading the paper on a 56k connection have the time to download it.

I want to make money doing something I don't consider work.
That means I'm qualified to be a cartoonist, or a porn star.

Hmm. I don't want to be syndicated, per se. But I DO want to be published.

I imagine getting paid to create comics is something like that only without the car.

Wow. I'm surprised that pretty much all of the cartoonists doesn't want to be one.

I guess newspaper comics is not a rage anymore.

You know...syndicates usually gets more than thousands of submissions every year...I wonder if this will decrease in the future, and it will be little more easier to get syndicated. Well, I'm still few years away from getting a full time job, so we'll see.

No they're not. Being syndicated means you'll have to churn out the same unimaginative trash that has been in the newspapers for recent years. There's a big list of don'ts, and a big group of people willing to make sure you fail.

Syndications are old, stuffy, and a not something anyone with an ounce of imagination should aim for.

My old man suggested sending stuff off to the local rag to see what happens.

This coming from a bloke who doesn't actually visit my site or read my stuff, because he reckons he can look at the original pictures at my joint.

The original pictures have no dialogue or speech bubbles in them, so I don't know what he gets out of them...

You seem to have missed the whole debate on how webcomics are changing the syndication scene.

Here are two interesting articles written by Erics Burns of Websnark:

Yep. It' not like I even have a newspaper format strip anyway.

I disagree.

I like syndication better. I don't know the specific reason, but I guess it's because the fact that I can draw comics for a living (drawing comics is my hobby) and that more people can read my strip then it is on the web.

I studied syndication business on my spare time. I read many newspaper cartoonists' suggestions and their experiences (even from ones I'm not a fan of), read "Your Career in Comics", and I even read an actual syndication contract! (of course, it was little outdated, but I got the idea)

After going thru all that, I'm still taking chances. and I don't care what anyone says.

To tell you the truth, I like newspaper comics way more than comic books. I just grew up like that, I guess.

Again, wish me luck.

EDIT - If you want to see a syndication contract, check out the bottom of this page

http://www.stus.com/thesis.htm

I looked through that, believe it or not.

Hmm, not really. I'd rather be a part of DC, or something. Syndication doesn't appeal to me. I'm not that funny.

But they've not changed anything. IIRC Kurtz was only in one paper, which dropped his comic citing not enough space. And keen is only in their local paper, and that's in the middle of nowhere :P.

How could we all NOT want to be just like Jim Davis?

Frankly, to me, the only interesting thing in sindication is challenge: can I take it? Can I draw a new comic with a new joke every day?
Then perhaps first year of mcDuffies was a kind of sindication; I've tried it, then I lost interest in it and left it... So now there's really nothing to attract me to it.
Syndication? Meh, been there, done it.

I'm with Chuck up there. I'd rather read a daily funny over a comic-book style piece any day. I still enjoy Garfield...I still enjoy Snake Tales...You get the newspaper for a dollar and along with a decent read, you get a page of chuckles and smiles. Where's the wrong in that?
