Keenspace Sampler Volume 2

Postby Faub on Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:30 am

Okay, here's the deal. War has started a collab comic project meaning THIS sampler is going to be STRICTLY an ad-based comic. There are no rules for entries other than what is listed http://stripedb.freeshell.org/minicomic.html#submission_guidelines

I would also like to add a couple restrictions:

  1. You need to have a comic with at least some kind of archive to submit. The comic does not need to be on Keenspace since we aren't allowed to plug Keenspace. At least 20 comics online will make a good base but we can take it on a case-by-case basis (such as, you have more comics in your buffer than you have online).
  2. Those who appeared in the previous sampler are allowed to make submissions but people who were not in the previous sampler get dibs on the pages. If we have too many submissions, new people people get in. Old people get to wait for volume 3.
  3. Brief story comics are preferrable to single page ads. Try to limit the storylines to 2-3 pages, though. Take up too much space and you risk getting dropped because too many people submitted pages. There are no requirements for subject matter, only content requirments.

If you want ideas for what to submit, check out Volume One.

There will be 20, 24 or 28 content pages. One of which will be an introduction describing what the book is about. The inside front cover will be a list of contributors. The inside back cover will show the copyright (same one as before) and cover artist info.

Please post small (360x540) versions of your pages so we can see them. Post links to the large images so the compiler can download them (this will probably be cortland again). Do not email the large images. Cortland has dialup. You will only be hurting him if you email them. Post the links here.

So we need:

Front Cover: color 1650 x 2550 (open to anyone since it's not a plug)
Back Cover: color 1650 x 2550 (open to anyone since it's not a plug)
19, 23 or 27 content pages: 3000 x 4500 in high contrast grayscale, meaning it should look good if you set the threshold and print it in 2-color B&W. Color content pages will not be accepted.

Notice: Pages from your comic are acceptable if they meet the requirements. However, you ARE agreeing that these pages will go into this sampler are can be printed and distributed by ANYONE for money. If you're comfortable with this, submit away.

Essentially the same model as faub's. But with built-in duplex unit, because I'm darned lazy. Having seen the final product I'm pretty enthused about doing some more. Either a proper anthology or an organised jam.

A sampler with either story comics or a whole big organized jam would be pretty sweet. A sampler of a lot of pin-ups doesn't tell you much about the comic series. An organized jam would be a really fun way for people to see an artist's work, even if it isn't direct avertising for the artist's comic.

I second, third, and fourth the idea of a coordinated Jam!

And I don't care what anybody says--having all the contributing characters riding around in a KeenBus, visiting the different parts of the world everybody lives in (and generally doing the fun stuff we always do in the collaborative comics that spring up like mushrooms in the forums) would be kind of cool. 8)

Plot? That's easy, just pick a villain and then let everybody else decide who's side they're on. Sort of like the Keenspace Revolution. :D

Okay, so let this be the official opening of Volume 2. Since you're all so gungho about it we may as well start.

If you intend to make a scripted comic, the script needs to be written and agreed upon first. Then the pages will be divied up among those wanting to be in this volume. Ad pages will be accepted if the storyline doesn't run the full 28 pages. They will be interspersed with the regular content just like in real comics.

I want to give preference to anyone who was NOT in the previous sampler. That doesn't mean the 18 people who got in the last one can't make pages. It just means you get picked last when we divide up the pages.

That only means that Keenspace Jam is more violent than strawberry jam.

But that's because the Keenspace Jam has 90% more blood than regular strawberry jam.

A jam, I feel I need to point out, will not be nearly as good advertising for the individual comics. I'd prefer short story-type samples.

Either way, I will certainly try to get something done, since, by the time it is published, my comic will be in, well, if not full swing, then at least a quarter swing.

Short story comics would be easier for me, because I wouldn't have to cooperate with a group.

So how long should it be? One page? Two pages?

a jam sounds more fun. but I don't know if it'd be a "sampler" it'd be well a jam. maybe we could have that as a diffrent print project?

just cause deep down we'll be going off avatars and not our comics.. so it isn't sampling our comics and making people read it.

hopes this makes sense...
