Will Eisner

Post by Col »

Will Eisner died last night.

Man, I'm going to miss him. He brought so much to the world of comics. Can't believe he was still working even at 87. It's a sad day. :(

That totally sucks.
Of course, I'm the one that isn't JP Sloan or Jim North.

I guess we can chalk him up as the first celebrity death of the new year...

It always bothers me that I learn of the most important or interesting people only after they have passed away. Today he is known for practically creating the world of comics, but yesterday how many people would have thought of him? or even known who he was?

This is a sad loss.

I've been reading Eisner books for a while, and though the library of comics I keep is slim, he's one of the few that I loved to read over and over again. I feel like I lost my own father.

For some one less influenced by the comic book industry, I have to admit that I know very little of Will Eisner in comparison but I've always found that the things he said always seemed to make bloody good sense.

And such people are all too rare. I dare say he'll be missed.

I would've.
Without him, like Jack Kirby, there would be precious little comics history to peruse.
And he created not only the SPIRIT, but the graphic novel.---Al

Amen to that sister! It's a real shame too. Someone working for that long is someone to be respected.

And on a completely random sidenote I feel kind of bad now because when I first read this I thought you meant the CEO of Disney (A Mike Eisner I believe) and was actually happy at first.

I'm SO going to hell.

Wow. :o Who here didn't even know he was still alive? I mean, the guy is a comics legend from the Golden Age. He's been in the business since forever, so I naturally assumed he'd passed on long ago. Too bad I didn't get his autograph when I had the chance.

We'll miss, you Will!

I missed this thread when I looked for one. That is a very nice article you've posted. Thanks for it.

At any rate, damn. There goes another hero I'll never meet...

Yeah I had a friend who worked at a comic store in Boston that got to meet Will Eisner. I was so jealous. if I realized he lived in Ft Lauderdale I would have been stalking him. He was still writing and drawing up until his death. His last book (I think his last one) The Last Days of Vietnam was really really really really good.

He has one more book coming out, actually, called The Post. He managed to finish it before his death.

Actually, another famous artist from first half of 20th century that I didn't even know was still alive...
