Dad got me a Calligraphy Set!

Post by Anvil »

It has one pen and three nibs, and a bunch of colors, mostly blue and blue-black and black.

I'm going to practice to try my hand at penning some comics eventually.

I think I will have to start using paper bigger than 8 1/2 by 11, and not printer paper though.

I'm so excited. Sure, he gets them for free as he works at the Art College, but still! how many dads can bring home a tripod, a 100 dollar floor hand loom, 3 BOOKS of art paper, and various paints, fabrics, brushes, pencils and pens for free?

Cool! I've been trying calligraphy with a brush lately. It hasn't been kind to me. I do like how this came out overall, but the calligraphy isn't quite what I wanted. Oh well...it's passible. I should probably have tried it with actual pens, but I wanted the effect of brushes...which I didn't really get 'cause it was on too small a scale. Bah.

I hope you die. Calligraphy is the art I am best at. In addition to traditional calligraphy (which I am excellent at,) I consider "tattoo art" and "pokey things" (both of which I am also excellent at) to fall into the category of calligraphy. Some of my recent calligraphy: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/tocca/carto1.png ( note - work in progress. the shapes are based on a Turkish/Arabic semistyle, but are made up. hopefully i didn't write something bad in that language)
My favorite traditional calligraphy is Turkish. My library has a book called "Letters in Gold" with beautiful, beautiful Turkish calligraphy. ( note - The Turks use/used the Arabic alphabet ) http://www.lesartsturcs.com/calligraphy/

Oh wow. I could never do it that good Melody, have confidence in that. My hand is much too unsteady to do it that good!

muahahaha Artists use a trick called "moving the hand quickly." That calligraphy of mine was done with quick dashes. If I go slower, it will look as bad as anyone else's.

Also, that was done with Corel PHOTO-PAINT, which has an awesome feature called "Ctrl+Z."

Heh. My problem with fast strokes is they go too far ;)

I will practice though. Right now I just love doodling with the thing.

I got a few calligraphy pens in Swiss. If I manage to find time to practise, I thought it'd be a good tool for captions and stuff.
