Whee. I just tried an experiment. ImageReady will happily optimize your animation by getting rid of redundant pixels between frames (it's just the inverse of 'tweening), but it won't nuke redundant frames. It also won't nuke every second or third frame for you. Guess I'll have to break out the video editing stuff to do that. I actually have FinalCut, I just have never bothered to use it. So the real answer if I'm importing seems to be to just import the right number of frames to start with. I can tell it to only import ever 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc up to every 10th frame from a video clip.

That's just what I can have it do automagically. I can, of course, go through and do it by hand. Just like I can set each and every frame's delay individually (and I do that when I'm drawing an animation by hand and drawing each key frame seperately). I can also specify the frame disposal method. Does it get drawn over by the next frame or do the transparent sections of the next frame allow the previous one to show through? The persistant option makes certain types of effects less expensive size-wise. And it will of course do tweening with a user-specified number of frames between each key frame (watch your file size balloon! better off just drawing more key frames).

Anyway, I may post my experiment later tonight. I'm playing with a tiny clip taken of the White Rats at Pier 39 in SF a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, the photographer didn't get the shot of when the girls jumped up in the air and their skirts all flipped up to reveal their panties with frilly red lace, but timing is everything...

I'll probably severely crop this so that I have just one cute girl swinging a stick when I'm done. (I'm sure both Honor and Squiddy will be heartbroken by that)
