I now appoint myself as impartial observer, and declare that the semantics argument going on is stupid. And I am speaking here as someone who is quite fond of semantics arguments.
I think there are valuable things which have been said in this thread, but people arguing about what each other said in this very thread is pointless. You will never convince a person that they said (or intended) something other than what they themselves think they said (or intended), because they don't think that they themselves are crazy and randomly saying or intending things without being aware of it.
The best you can do is try to explain yourself in more detail on the assumption that your original point was misunderstood. An argument which amounts to "I didn't say that." "Yes you did." "Did not." "Did too." isn't going anywhere.
Now if only you were as pretty as me, too, you'd be set.
