NaNoWriMo

Post by Wishmaster »

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers Month) is looming in the near future. Basically, participants attempt to bang out a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. Yeah, I know, as if we didn't have enough to do trying to stay on top of our comics now I'm asking if anyone would really like to punish themselves. Anyway, I was just curious how many other people had heard of this or were planning on participating.

I'll be doing it this year. Most likely a horror/sci-fi oriented tale I've had in the back of my mind for awhile. I'll be posting on the NaNo forums (infrequently since I have to save most of my typing for the novel) under the name RexWolf.

Christwriter's been rabbitting on about this since about August...it's only a matter of time before she finds this and joins in. I think there's about a dozen or so already from here joining in.

I'm staying out. November is report writing time for me...between the two, I'd rather write the novel.

I'll be doing it, since I've been so lazy about writing out the story for my webcomic, hah. I figure I'll be less lazy if everyone else is being productive and writing...so perhaps I shall be productive as well?

I did sign up for this, but I don't think I'll be doing it. Things have come up.

I signed up, but I'm not sure. I can't get an idea I can put my thumb on.

I signed up, mostly because I'm highly susceptible to peer pressure.

This will be my third year as well, RA. Of the two previous years I only successfully completed the first year, but I have high hopes for this year. I've got a plot and a cast of characters in mind already. It will just be a matter of keeping my interest for the entire month. I always get about 12,000 words in and then suddenly become convinced I should have written the other story idea I had, which is what happened last year. Technically I completed the challenge int hat I wrote 50,000 words, but it was split between two different books.

I did NaNoWriMo in 2001, and I completed a 51,000 word novel that actually wasn't half bad. But in the process I aggravated my ulcer until it bled, and spent the next three months on heavy medication with constant nausea. :) It can be a rough challenge.

For those of you not interested in a month-long marathon, I recommend National Drunken Writing Night as an alternative. The rules should be easy to figure out. :)

I'm all signed up for it. Though, the first week will be hellish, since I have to be in a play.

Thank you for the hot tip, Mr. Fagin. I was under the false impression that bridge jumping was in vogue. How foolish I would've looked.

I'm in. Uh. So is anyone interested in posting little excerpts when they start? It could be fun? :) I'm always more motivated when I get to read other people's stuff (and know they're sufferin' too :P )

I started on an outline for mine.

It involves the Revelation According to John, Beethoven, Alien Abductions, Godzilla, Merlot, A Montana Sheep Farmer, a Turkey Baster, a 1987 Sammy Stewart topps Baseball Card...and the ghost of Lindon B. Johnson (LBJ MAY be edited out).

Should be an interesting read.
