*Sigh* I' feel that I'll never get a console. Everytime I wait for it to fall within my pricerange, a better one is being made. :(

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range Imaging. It actually isn't a gimmick. It's designed to make more realistic images. Basic explanation follows.

In real life, light goes from 0 (no light) to, well, forever. As far as we're concerned, no matter how bright something is, it can get brighter (this may not technically be true, but that's so bright that it doesn't matter anymore). In a computer, though, light goes from 0 (no light) to 1 (white), generally with 256 levels in between. If something's really bright, too bad. It'll just get cut off at 1.
This is where HDR comes in. HDR allows the light to go up to 2, 5, 800, and on. As the brightness of a space passes 1, it begins to bleed into the area directly surrounding it and everything else becomes darker, simulating what happens when you look at a bright light (i.e. the brightness overwhelms the darker surroundings). This also serves to mimic the eye's iris (or the camera's aperture), which will contract in the face of brightness and expand in the face of darkness.
So, yeah. HDR actually leads to more realism.

Yeah, I've played Morrowind. It might be fun as a filler game. I am glad that the graphics have improved. Everyone in Morrowind looks like they're walking corpses. I know this can be moded, but still...

Think of it this way, just because a system is old (or a game) it doesn't mean it's rubbish, just look at games like Chrono Trigger. Games and consoles don't need to be new to be good.

On the computer version, there are a bunch of mods, the big one being "Better Bodies."

Unfortunately, my video game fundis short, and there simply aren't enough good RPGs out there for XBox to warrant me buying an XBox 360 on top of my current XBox. I've heard that it takes an advanced computer to run the PC version.

This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

I am so glad I got a job over the summer. Thanks to that, I have a Next Generation Video Game Fund of something over two grand. Which is awesome.

Also, see my signature. I want to get a free Xbox 360 through one of the actual legitimate companies out there. HELP ME PLEASE!
