I vote for the genre links to not include art types... but I have no convincing argument for this. If someone wants a sci-fi or fantasy manga, make them search through the sci-fi or fantasy comics that may or may not be manga.
With regard to the pogs, you could have the submitted pogs themselves be a "background image" with the circular mask as the clickable foreground image (with a transparent yet clickable chewy center). That way even if someone submitted a square pog for the round hole, the masking would still work. Obviously the outside of the pog-mask would be matted, not transparent. In other words, the same masks would always be on the front page, with different randomly selected pogs behind them.
Y'follow?

Since the background is a gradient, the pogs will always have to be in the same place relative to the background for that to work, or else the outside of the pog mask would be a visible, out-of-place square.Risky wrote:With regard to the pogs, you could have the submitted pogs themselves be a "background image" with the circular mask as the clickable foreground image (with a transparent yet clickable chewy center). And I can't guarentee the pogs will be in the same place. In fact, the webpage is specifically designed to be fluid and stretchable when the user changes the font size through their browser. That going to push the pogs downwards.

Except the Dockers, of course.

You've got them listed under languages, would it be worth following that and listing them by country of origin like the guide does? There're also a lot of comics (so I hear) with supernatural based characters involved. I don't really count mine in those, but it's another possibility.

Oooh. That is a good point. I just need somewhere to put it...Dutch! wrote:You've got them listed under languages, would it be worth following that and listing them by country of origin like the guide does?
Actually, I might be able to have it replace language since most comics which arent in English would come from the country that uses the language they are in. It sort of works for both.

I never though of "manga" being a genre in itself, but more of a style... I think it is quite limiting for those who draw in a manga-ish style but are making a fantasy/horror/high school/gaming/whatever comic... they would have to choose either category. And "manga" isn't very descriptive of the content...Joel Fagin wrote:Oh, that's brilliant. Very useful. You missed "Sprite", though, so bonus points for that.Mr.Bob wrote:This is a list of all possible genre groups I could think of (plus language) with the most likely to be found on Comic Gen put in bold.
Edit: RPGs and manga, too.

Well, what I'm talking about is that, on the main Comic Genesis webpage, there will be a list of categories for comics, such as science fiction, fantasy and so forth, in order to entice people to browse. Given the purpose of the site is to attract readers, it's actually less important that we have every comic represented in the categories and more important that we have the categories people are interested in.blackaby wrote:There isn't anything supernatural or something like that? Or are you counting that kind of thing in horror? I know this is late, and this is really self centered, but it seems like I don't fit in anywhere. I'm terribly sorry, I could just be confused with what you're talking about here, too.
This is, however, open to negotiation. Hence this thread.
There are currently twelve. Eight genres and four categories which aren't genres, including "All comics". As far as I'm aware, what we can have is limited by what categories are listed here, in the Guide. I don't know if new categories can be added. Finally, we also need categories with enough comics in to make them worthwhile. Historical probably wouldn't cut it, for example.
I reckon you could get away with being fantasy anyway. Supernatural, although it is appropriate, tends to imply horror to quite an extent, which you don't have.
Doesn't matter. This is, basically, advertising, which means you need to work with what people believe. Most people consider manga to be a genre so we need to let them look for manga comics. Dismissing it as a genre will simply turn those people who are looking for manga away or frustrate them as they try to search for manga comics in amongst the other categories.-Rain- wrote:I never though of "manga" being a genre in itself, but more of a style...
