Wrong topic. Go elsewhere.

I like Ceegees, haven't seen the movie in question. The Sgt. Pepper movie.

Please Excuse My Stupidity

Please excuse my stupidity, but what does it mean when someone says "get in the box" or any variation thereof?

So we should call ourselves boxers, apparently.

If you don't know what The Box is, you definitely belong in The Box. Where's DM when you need him?

Regardless of the manifold other things the box is, the box is also a "penalty box" like in hockey. If you are in the box, people aren't going to take you as seriously. It usually means you've demonstrated some particularly bad behaviour. The lower your post count, the more likely people are to box you. A lot of people "did nothing" to get put in the box... see exceptions upthread.

Thread necromancy is frowned upon in general (not that I've never dabbled in the dark arts), but really, bringing up an argument from almost a full year ago (and linking to it) from the "keenspot forum" (that awful place) is really too much. The offender's post count makes it seem unlikely that he participated in the 50+ different threads that have been discussing the service's name change for the past Year, let alone is said person privy to the constant groans that took place in the last dozen or so of those threads when someone brought this same "customer" subject up Again.

Plus he was totally like being sarcastic, and that's so not nice. :(
When I signed up for this service, I was under the impression it was a service and I was a customer of that service. True, geocities was never rude enough to change the name of my site without warning me, but Talkcity, Goplay, Ureach, and several other services had the discourtesy to Stop Existing and Erase My Site From Existence without asking.

No need, I've been looking for an excuse to pull down my site and start fresh elsewhere, so this seems as good a time as any.

When I came here August of '03 it seemed like a great place to host my comic and a dedicated community in the forums. Now however, I don't have enough time to dedicate to reading posts everyday in order to give a damn about boxes or to try to figure out who Risky or any of the others with "Infamous Forum Fodder Boxed Sets" titles (or whatever they say) are and if I should give a damn who they are.

Obviously I don't know any of the forum regulars anymore. I don't like being a "customer" here (Last I checked the customer was always right). I don't like the new name or the fact that we can be renamed on a whim.

So I've enjoyed my three years on KEENSPACE but after three years of fighting self-imposed deadlines and reading crap from frakheads in the forums, I just don't think it's all that serious and don't think its worth wasting my time worrying about.

I'll pull down my site tonight and re-organize my thoughts a little before I decide on where to host my comics in the future. Probably just pay the price and buy some space of my own.

To the gang I used to hang with, you guys were great.

To the new crowd, have fun playing with your fraking boxes.

P.S. As to my low post count, that is due to not being able to get the login name that I wanted when I initially joined. I had to take "RandomActs" as a login until "Tovias" freed up. But whatever.

If you're looking at paid hosting, you might want to consider the introductory offer at WCN, the person who runs it seems pretty amenable to customizing the service to how people want it, and he's also the "owner" of a well known comic consortium already.

I don't recall anyone being pleased when that "customer" appellation was handed down, especially the manner in which it was done so, however you really should have gotten over it by now. It's already a running gag in the forum community.

With regards to needing to know who I am, etc, nobody really cares who I am.

'Bye Tove.

I vote for Genners simply because that's how it works. You take the first syllable of one of the words, or one of the words itself, and add "ers". That's the way it naturally happens.

Anyway, it sounds coolish without seeming to be made up to sound cool.

For future hosting purposes I intend to find a reliable webhost, not one specifically in the business of hosting webcomics and rent space there.

If being a customer is what you like, you should expect to be treated as one. As to "getting over it" sadly I'm Irish, and one of the few things we mastered generations ago was holding grudges, so I don't 'get over' much. If references to being a Keen customer is a running gag, then maybe you shouldn't be so box happy in your replies.

As to my reference to "who you are" it was in the sense of "are you anyone in the heirarchy of Keen that I should give a damn about" obviously now that I've removed my site and look else where for hosting even if you were/are it doesn't matter now.

You're still pissed about the customer thing? You should have left long ago.

Good luck in the future for you and your comic.

Look, the box is a silly little thing that some of us pass around. It's a little irritating but easy to ignore. Nothing to get pissy about. And so a Spotter called us customers a year ago. Yeah, that stung for about fifteen minutes. So what? And the CEOs of a company got the nerve to change the name of a company they run after the "customers" were complaining about branding? Well, they pay the bills, so I think they have that right. And when lots of people around here hated the name, they actually used the name we came up with. Not exactly a fascist regime. If all of that really bothers you, well, go off on your own. No biggy. But really, this is far from unacceptable for a web community. Your welcome to stay but no one's gonna weep if you don't. Just spare us divaness.

Yeah, you know what happens to divas.

I feel a disturbance in the holy ghost, as if someone just cried out kind of annoyingly, and then was suddenly struck. As if by a striker.
