Suggestion for good FTP please?

Post by KittyBish »

I was using FlashFXP on my old comic. I started a new comic recently, and now for some reason FlashFXP won't accept my password, even though it works through siteadmin, ect...

So now I have to find a new FTP program. Does anyone know some good ones? Preferably free, and if possible similar to FlashFXP. It took me forever to learn FlashFXP and I dread the thought of relearning a totally different FTP style. That and I found Flash worked really well for me.

I'll try anything though. Thanks.

SmartFTP is free for individuals, and works well for me. Easy to learn, too. If you use Firefox, you could use the fireFTP extension, but that has tended to get a bit flaky on me at times.

Yeah, I was about to suggest SmartFTP also. I find it really easy to use.

Hey Kittybish, did you get all of your problems with Philex sorted out? If so, I still think Philex is the most efficient, and easiest to use.

If you can't use Philex, I also vote for SmartFTP. It works very well. ^^

Whoops! Sorry, I didn't know this until now, but another good alternative: Siteadmin's FTP is working again.

I use WSFTP_LE, but it's been discontinued... :(

I reccomend smartFTP with the rest of them, though.

I use LeechFTP, it's very easy to learn to use, I think.

I use FTP Commander. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it gets the job done.

I didn't really like SmartFTP that much because I get "Dude, you should register!" messages, and those are annoying. Otherwise, though, it seemed like a good product.

I've used the following FTPS: CoffeeCup, Internet Explorer, Foxfire, FTP Commander, WSFTP_LE and Smart FTP and a few others I can't even remember.

Thus far I've liked CoffeeCup the best. However I'm too cheap/poor to pay money for an FTP so I only have CoffeeCup for 30-60 days after the new version comes out... I probably just buy it. So right now I'm using SmartFTP. I like it a lot, not as much as CoffeeCup, but nearly.

So I vote SmartFTP since you can use it LONG after the trail has ended and the one pop up you get asking you to buy it before it starts it trivial. Less then 2 seconds you've hit OK and enter the program.

But if you are having trouble signing in I would talk to the admins and make sure it isn't your account.

I've just been using the explorer's Web Folder function for my ftp and Dreamweaver MX also allows for getting and putting files.

HEY! Stop booing and hissing! It works perfectly fine for me! I don't need bells and whistles! I just need something to add and subtract files!
