I thought when things got blown up they generally became piles of rocks anyway...

Well two suffestions really... one google up some images of explosions and use them as a guide (or search engine of choice of course)... two learn a bit about the physics of explosions so that you can think about where the breaks in stuff should be... to start you off on the second one I will now try and explain what I understand about explosions...

explosions start at a point... wherever the bomb was or the leak in the gas main got ignited or whatever... then the force of the explosion expands from that point... in open space this will expand as a sphere, but in open space it's not going to encounter building s or anything so that's dull... when the space isn't open the force expands until it meets an obstruction... a wall the side of the car, whatever... it then tries to continue expanding to do this it has to find a way through... this is when things get broken up... the expanding force will find the path of least resistance, that is it will break through at the weakest point... in a wall withh windows the windows will break first because the glass is less strong than the bricks or whatever, things like cars will generally rip open along weld lines...

I'm not sure I'm explaining this well and my understanding is a bit patchy but i hope this will get you started.
Warning: this poster is addicted to ellipses...

I have a web comic called Tears of Eternity if you don't look you'll never know if you would have liked it.

Do you have the movie Independance Day? Fast-forward to after the past where everything goes boom and then pause when Will Smith's wife and son are walking around in the rubble. War of the Worlds also looks promising for rubble scenes, but I have no idea if it's playing near you. Also, you could try googling about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but I don't know what you'll find.

For destruction/post-apocalyptic scenes:

- Desaturate the color of the art.
- Make it as monotone, or greyscale as possible
- Have the rendered sky be as grey/cloudy/stormy as possible - this sets the mood of the thingie;
- Add "smoke". When rocks crumble, or things blow up, large amounts of dust go airborne.

When creating debris, use the rule: [amount of debris] is inversely proportional to [the distance from ground zero]. But if [the distance from ground zero] == 0, [debris] = 0.

Uh, yeah. Hope this helps.

Well,as far as I can tell from what I'm going to do,I think the background of the whole thing will be -
broken glasses,corpes,fire,rubble,blown up cars,etc...

and thanks to Levi-chan for the idea.
