I made a topic about the Hitchhiker's Guide, and now I thought I'd do one regarding Discworld. Any other Pratchett fans on the forum?

"You're very clever, young man, but it's turtles all the way down!!"

I enjoy the Discworld novels very much, although I like the City Watch novels better than the ones about the Witches of Lancre.
"gooey-duck". A clam. Not a snail.

No, the turtle swims in space. Sheesh...

And yes, the mighty Bill Door "r0xorz". That is the only term that can possibly describe his godliness.
Oh, and Death is okay too, I suppose...
But Death of Rats just rocks.

sapient pearwood IS sentient. Among other things.

With an ingrained bad temper. Would you really want to have to sit in a pissed off sofa?

Yeah...Small Gods has my vote for most important Discworld book. That's the one where he first really started getting into meaty stories yet still has you giggling every few pages.

As evidenced in Interesting Times (I think) the bad temperedness of the luggage is not common to all items made from sapient pearwood...

And I'm a big fan of Agnes/Perdita and pretty much all the black-ribboner vampires... especially the one is Monstrous Regiment.
Warning: this poster is addicted to ellipses...

I have a web comic called Tears of Eternity if you don't look you'll never know if you would have liked it.

I've (sadly) only read one of the "Rincewind" books so far -- Last Continent. Even that managed to impart the sheer wussiness of his heroism. No worries.

"So we have to keep him drunk enough that Dibbler's pies sound appetizing, but not so drunk that he suffers brain damage."
"That's a pretty slim margin..."

The only Discworld book I don't own is Eric, and that's because I don't like that one as much and can get it at the library anyway. I bought all the others regardless of library availability.

Still missing aeveral of the 'extras' though, since many of them haven't been published outside the UK. Amazingly enough my Library had both Science of the Discworld books, so I managed to get them.

I'm on a grand quest to read everything Terry Pratchett I can get my hands on.

I think it's actually mentioned that sapient pearwood is bad tempered in one of the descriptions . . . but Rincewind's luggage is just plain warped.

I've just read "BOB's guide to the galaxy" and I must say it's an amazing read.

Terry Pratchett is by far and away my most favorite author. He's the only author I know who, after writing an ok book, bounces back with an amazing one. Nightwatch and Thief of Time are my favorites.

Come to think of it, he also did a great job with the Johnny series.

I played him at X-Wing once. He things the "Calamari Cruisers" are a fantastic joke. I also have his guest of honour speech from the same convention as an MP3. It's hilarious. The guy should be a stand up comic if the books ever fizzle.

Nightwatch is my favourite so far. Vimes is my favourite character and that books is pure, distilled Vimes.

(Gotta say, though... He can't write childrens books. They just end up being like his normal books only shorter.)
