I have a campaign setting where people revere names. In their culture it's a duty to live up to your name as a principle. There's even a branch of magic that derives its power from names.
It's very amusing, because you get a lot of people who are named very bluntly after things, and other people who take their names very seriously, and a few mystics who derive their power from the secrecy of their true names. There was once a prophecy about a legendary hero named Dek, who would rise above the ruin of their land and save them. As a result, Dek is the most common name in the world, and having the name is a joke. Sort of like being named Bob.

My name is derived from "being angry". I don't think it's very descriptive of my character. But then again, I wouldn't like to be called "Loony" or something like that.

Elizabeth - "God is my oath" or "consecrated to God." I don't think so. Agnostic, anyone?
Rose, short for Rosalyn - flower or red-haired. Neither are accurate in any sort of way. :-?
Can't find anything on my last name. It's not an exactly common one anyways. *shrug*

*Imagines all of the Elizabeths he knows being hogtied with apples in their mouths, with wine poured over them, and being "consecrated to god."*

For some reason that's the image I get when I hear that phrase. I don't really have anything against Christianity, but the whole sheep thing annoys me to no end.

This reminds me of how in Japanese every other name means "cute little red apple."

What is it with those people and their apples?

It can either mean simply "laurel" from the name of the tree, or it can be a pet form of LAURA.

First Name:
NICHOLAS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, French
Pronounced: NI-ko-las (English), nee-ko-LA (French) [key]
Extra Info: Popularity, Related Names, Namesakes, Websites, Comments
Options: Contribute Information, Add to List
From the Greek name Nikolaos which meant "victory of the people" from Greek nike "victory" and laos "people". Saint Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop from Anatolia who, according to legend, saved the daughters of a poor man from lives of prostitution. He is also known as Santa Claus (from Dutch Sinterklaas), the bringer of Christmas presents. He is the patron saint of children, sailors and merchants, and Greece and Russia. Nicholas was also the name of two czars of Russia and five popes.
Victory? Of the people? Consider that an irony.

Middle Name
CHRISTOPHER
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English
Pronounced: KRIS-to-fur [key]
Extra Info: Popularity, Related Names, Namesakes, Websites, Comments
Options: Contribute Information, Add to List
Means "bearing Christ", derived from Late Greek Christos combined with pherein "to bear, to carry". Christopher was the legendary saint who carried the young Jesus across a river. He is the patron saint of travellers. Another famous bearer was Christopher Columbus, the explorer who reached the West Indies in the 15th century.
Irony again! Huzzah!

Last Name (Yaeger). Can't find it, but I know it's German for "Archer"

And Why I hate my name, and it would behoove you to learn how to fuckin' spell it!.
