March 25 - Disciples
well that's an interesting spin on things, so what Quentyn found was not something from Rosad Beither himself, but from Disciples following him, which were apparently up to now hypothetical...
ok, so putting it in modern perspective, he found a lab under New York, made by Insane Nazi Geneticists out to bring about the Apocalypse, who are Still At Large.
...this puts a somewhat different perspective on the reasons behind the coverup.

Worth noting
An interesting observation of todays strip. The guardsman constantly referred to Quentyn as 'Questor'. A nice little professional courtesy, perhaps indicating that some people are starting to consider him more than some local yokel playing dressup.
Another observation:
As far as they knew, he could have been using it everywhere, in private.

Another observation:
As far as they know! Heck, the bad guy could have been using it for years and his epitaph was the first time the officials heard it.It was his epitaph. He wrote it days before he was executed.

Anybody wanna place bets on whether or not our favorite furball is gonna have another run-in with that cult at some point?
THAT is gonna get epic. This little mess he just dealt with sets the stage for such a thing, with Rac Conan opponents this time. Which could have gotten morally problematic except that he's now seen how psycho these guys are.
Quentyn is liable to have to confront that whole "morality of killing" thing again, which is a damned important subject.

...which also explains why the lab and its contents appeared to be in surprisingly good condition for something built by someone 300 years dead.Marcus Talbain wrote:well that's an interesting spin on things, so what Quentyn found was not something from Rosad Beither himself, but from Disciples following him, which were apparently up to now hypothetical...
Could be. They may have even played a role in the disappearance of Quentyn of Ridgedale. Whether that's true or not, I'd venture to speculate that a future story arc will involve Quentyn discovering what really happened to his earlier namesake.bigdude wrote:Anybody wanna place bets on whether or not our favorite furball is gonna have another run-in with that cult at some point?
Back to today's strip, keep in mind that there are still several other higher profile characters (Millfolk, Irons, possibly Rillcreek though I think he returned to Freeman Downs while Quentyn was still sitting up nights with Colin) who know the whole story and who could advise Quentyn and Emmett on how to handle this dilemma (or act on their own, for that matter).

Waaahhh! I want to see the what happened too! But it seems that all the Keenspace comics are down. Then I went to Yerf to see if RHJ may have posted a copy there like he's done in the past, but they are in the process of rebuilding their server. ARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! I'm going through withdrawal here, and it is not fun!!!

That was an interesting development. Which leads to another question of how recently that lab was used and if so are the people using it still around or were they killed by the rat wights?
Poor Quentyn. His most heroic deed and it's gotten supressed. And that finder's fee is going to be as much hush money as anything else. A reward for keeping quiet and not rocking the boat.
He really needs a chat with Master Rillcreek, who will be sympathetic and will probably give him words of assurance. And point out that there are people who know what Quentyn really did and he's gaining the attention and even the respect of very important people. Admittedly a lot of them are the same people trying to bury this incident but even so...
So now it's back to waiting for the sword to be figured out and trying to deal with a kit with a massive crush on him.

Yay! Comic's back! ...And lo and behold, Ralph actually used the MIB quote!Starcat5 wrote:Comics are up, finally. And that means people can now do research. *Eye twinkle* IIRC, our beloved author released a translation guide once. Could someone with more time on their hands find out exactly what that motto actually says?
I have to admit, I'm enjoying this little development..

That is quite an interesting theroy. It also would suggest that something actually happened, or *got loose* fifty years ago that would cause said witch hunt. Without any other hints, or an actual history lesson (which may be forthcomming) we can not say for sure.KeeCoyote wrote:Hysterical witchhunt like 50 years ago? Rocannan version of McCarthysm?
Though, unfortionately, like many witch hunts and inquisitons throughout history; I am sure that many unscrupilous people used them as a means to get back at their supposed enemies.
In Salem, for example, many of the people accused of witchcraft either had property that somebody else wanted, or were in a feud with the accuser.

Oh, man - don't even get me started on the oh, so patriotic Senator Joseph McCarthy. He is very much on my 'Gee whiz, I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and beat the crap out of him' list.
A "small infestation" of wights? Oh, come on - they could have done better than that. It could easily have been called a "large infestation" with no harm to the status quo. Given the number of homes affected (and all of the current witnesses), word is going to get out that the infestation wasn't nearly as small as the government would like them to believe.

When trouble arises and things look bad, there's always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is insane.
Lies are more believeable with a large dose truth. If they had given Quentyn credit for discovering and destroying the Rosad Beither lab (just leave out it was recent and made by his disciples) people would have assumed it was an old abandoned lab and everything was now OK.
Quentyn would have the credit he deserved and the government would have the Rosad disciples believing they were still unknown and could have gone after them quietly.

Maybe you or anyone else for that matter could explain to me how Senator Joseph McCarthy had anything to do with the House Un-American Activities Committee hearings?
I'm just curious.

I don't recall there having been anything about the original Quentyn having disappeared. Could you point me to the reference for this?mwalimu wrote:Could be. They may have even played a role in the disappearance of Quentyn of Ridgedale.
