Two strips in one day?!?
Geez, talk about fan service! Like someone said Ralph, don't burn yourself out! (burning artist really smells awful)
Either Rac-Conan use some really good pain killers in their hospitals, or Quentyn has the worst luck in wake up calls! :o Why couldn't he, just once, wake up to that pretty bar maid looking down at him! (with his luck, she'd wake him up by pouring another pitcher of ale on him :o )
As for the open man, er, Rac-Conan hole, don't forget Quentyns trusty native guide and chewy alarm clock. Squidge is a seasoned sewer spelunker. He knew where an easily removed manhole was located, and may have guided Quentyn to his egress by the feel of moving air.
The surface rescuers were guided to the location by Quentyns sword, and had probably removed the cover themselves.
QED.
:D

You can fool some of the people all of the time
And all of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

I just realized I listed the actions of a bogeyman and a magic sword as the simplest solution to a puzzle.
:o
I gotta stop reading so much fantasy.

Well Irons removed the cover, and the lab stayed hidden because of the unionized labor never doing any real work.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Or the lab tunnel was revealed by a relatively recent collapse...
you'll recall the tunnel leading to the door was a bit crumbly lookinging, and the entryway was a bit rubble-y too.

Well there is that. But when did you become a shill to protect the unions? :-?

He's not. He's just doing his job as the narrarator of the story.

Well, given today's strip, looks like I was right about climbing ladders being a bad idea. ;) He could have just called up for help, no doubt, after hearing the voices talking about him...Of course, getting to repeat the quip "Eight feet tall and farting thunderbolts" was worth something, but wouldn't it have been a crying shame if he'd slipped off before they could catch him and busted his skull?
This signature has been left empty to heighten your anticipation.

It also happens to be the taunt the "old tankard snouts" ribbed him with in the prior strip.

Thought I had heard the before.

And Master Rillcreek gave him advice to do just that:

Wasn't it Master Rillcreek that also said that this was probably a "pretty straightforeward and safe contract" in the first place???

The First Rule of Adventuring - A "straightforward and safe contract" is generally nothing of the sort.

In other words, always read the fine print.
When trouble arises and things look bad, there's always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is insane.
