*calls Indiana Jones to resolve this*
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.
My good beings, you would appear to not be sufficiently considering the ways of creative compromise. Ponder the following senario and see if it, or some variation of it, might be mutually satisfactory:
Quentin asks to keep the sword. The artificers say yes.
Quentin donates it to a museum, on the condition that regardless of whether admission is charged, or whether it is open any given week (down for maintainence or whatever), Colin has free (supervised) access any day he wants, and that upon reaching an appropriate age Colin will have the option of assuming curatorship of said exhibit at a reasonable salary (which would probably be a pitance, since I would think it would be a part time job at best).

Very true.....but given the circumstances, I doubt seriously if the Artificers would object. If Quentyn told Master Irons what he wanted to do, I have no doubt that Irons would back him.Anthony Lion wrote:But... it's not his to give away.Sharuuk wrote:#2....SOMEBODY needs to retrieve the sword he dropped. (It's a loaner from the hall of Artificers)
But you did make a very valid point.

Really.
At least, until Dr. Henrey Jones Jr., known to most as hero archeologist Indiana Jones, draws forth his Webley Mk. IV .455 revolver and his trademark bullwhip, that is. Then it's about as good as holding a newspaper in front of you.
All good points JAM.....but the rainwater would help to both cleanse the wounds and aid in surface vascular constriction (cold water) to staunch the blood flow. The JAM wrote:[...unWARP!!!]
Good evening.
They may be surface wounds, but he has a HEAP of surface wounds. That, in the medical profession (so I hear), is generally known as Not A Good Thing.
Also, lying on the floor with OPEN WOUNDS, when who-knows-what has been on that floor, is also Not A Good Thing.
Having open wounds for a Long Time (how long was he unconscious?) is also considered Not A Good Thing.
Somebody PLEASE get him to a hospital!! (or a reasonable facsimile thereof)
Call me a romantic (riiiiight) but I can visualize Quentyn just standing in the rain with his face upturned letting it wash the blood off and just enjoying the fact that he's out of the tunnels and alive......a little rat-gnawed and ragged around the edges maybe.....but alive and victorious.
And I like the notched right ear.....gives 'im that much more character!!

I also had to wonder, if it's pouring rain, why didn't we see more water down below? I can only assume that the network of tunnels Quentyn and Squidge are navigating are separate from the storm sewers. After all, the underground lab they just came from has been there through countless storms and does not appear to have incurred any flood damage.
Others have noted that Quentyn's forelock is now larger, and that he seems to have fared better psychologically than he did after the Gragum incident. But did you notice we never get a good look at his right eye, which seems to be closed and bloody?

Having spent four years active duty on subs, I can comprehend that feeling all too well.Yeshu... I so want to see the sky...
As for physical danger from his injuries, alone they probably wouldn't have been too dangerous, but lying on a rock floor in an underground room would have been fatal in his condition.
Since his people live in those tunnels, that knowledge is probably the equivelant of basic first aid for Squidge, which is why a creature with such a limited intellect understood the need for Quentyn to get moving.
Came back for... Squidges ring
Suure ya did.
Looks like Squidge may be the first bogey to discover heroism. Truly, the King Under the Sewer!
Wonder if he'll also get to learn the first rule of heroes: No good deed ever goes unpunished.
You can fool some of the people all of the time
And all of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

It might just be streetlights, but given the grey half-light of the background, and the fact that we don't kow how long Quentyn was down there, it could very well be actual daylight(or at least what little is making it's way through the clouds).
As for his eye, I agree it's just a scalp wound above it. Checked the strips for the 13th and 14th again just to be sure. In the 13th you can see he's still got his eye when he kills the rat king as well as when he recives the wound in the pannel dicrectly above that one, and in the 14th we see the wound's been bleeding while he was out. He might need a stitch or two in about 50 diffrent places after this, but he's alive and intact.

"...I mean, I'll kill a man in a fair fight. Or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight. Or if he bothers me. Or if there's a woman. Or if I'm gettin' paid. Mostly only when I'm gettin' paid. But these Reavers... Eaten' people alive? Where does that get fun?"

The tunnels are separate from the storm drainage system, that was established when Quentyn first went underground. I'm sure Beither would've set up shop somewhere relatively dry, after all.mwalimu wrote:I also had to wonder, if it's pouring rain, why didn't we see more water down below? I'm wondering more how it stays sealed against water - it's likely below the water table - but with the bogeys and brownies down there to do maintenance, that question might be answerable as well. They don't have to be very bright to figure out that keeping the water out is a Good Idea.
As to the forelock - the stag was back again. Whatever it is (Guardian Angel? Chief of Mission for God in this universe? Special Agent, Divine Branch?) it could've given him a bit of a boost before it faded out.
The eye's probably swollen shut, is all. Both eyes were fine when he took out the Rat King, but he'd been badly chewed and bitten. Swelling isn't instantaneous, and he'll look even worse than he does now before he's healed up completely.

Ignorance is not a point of view.

Y'know, given the nature of the tunnels that Quentyn has been strolling through, and given that they are separate from the storm sewers, I am rather surprised that there would be an unsealed manhole giving easy access. It just seems to me that some Public Works guy (or the Rac Conan equivalent) would have long since investigated the tunnels. Even if he didn't find anything, he would have done something to secure the opening to keep the kits out.
Or maybe I'm wrong, and the tunnels DO link up with the storm drains/sewer system.

When trouble arises and things look bad, there's always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is insane.

Well if it was unionized labor it would make sense.

My bet is that the bogeymen probably found a few breaches that led to the storm drains, and widened them into connecting passageways.
