If the crystal is just the power source as RH says, then look at the cables attached to the "ends" of it....one "positive", one "negative". Sever those leads to the array and it should power down. Just don't try to cut them with a conductive blade.

Wonder if this is a point where Quentyn could REALLY use "his" sword right about now? :-?

If the "rat king" is directing the shadow rats, then the quickest way to end the problem would be to toss the "rat king" back into a vat of Pharoa's Amber to render it inert again.

Or give it a year long pass to Disney World.

But that wouldn't help. Unless the shadow rats rely on their conection to the rat king, it'd be like removing the queen from a hive and not killing her. The hive would go nuts, confusion sets in and indiviuals would scatter, merly excalirating the problem of the shadow rats if they are self sustaining. Nope I've got a fealing that killing the rat king is the only way to ensure that the shadow rats could die too.

Just wire the place and make sure to dteonate it just as Quentyn goes put the door, that way you can get the big dramatic explosion behind the hero.

Just make with the sledghammer already! No collateral damage, and he's got one with him (well, not a sledgehammer per say, but a nice, hefty hammer all the same). Hey, it'll be a Whack-A-Rat game!

But But, my parents told me Gallager was not real. He was just a bad dream. Now I realize I must end this nightmare forever. I must destroy Gallager, and while I am at it I will also get rid of Gallager II.

Gallager is one of the decidely more entertaining comedians running around the USA. Refreshingly, he's also capable of several hours of material with no vulgarity.

Half of any Gallager show seems to rely on props of various sorts, the most famous is his "Sledge-O-Matic" that he uses to close a show. Basically he smashes all sorts of things with a large mallet all the while giving a sale's man spiel about how great it is (like the door to door sales man of old).

A lot of his humor is based on pointing out the stupidity and insanity of every day life. He also knows how to incorporate the general audience into his jokes.

In short, Gallager is a comedian worth watching.

Total nutcase of a comedian who seems to be stuck in the 60's with various routines that are absolutely hysterical. One of his best gags and the one that has become his signature is the "Sledge-O-Matic". A jab at all the 'Ronco' type products advertised on late night TV. "It slices, it dices, it frappe's it fits on a shelf and uses NO electricity"......that sort of pitch.

Sledge-O-Matic is this gigundous wooden maul with a handle and a chunk of 10" diameter by 12" long tree trunk for a hammer head. With it he smashes EVERYTHING!!!! ESPECIALLY FOOD!!!! Tomatoes, oranges, whole watermelons, lettuce, cabbage, cakes, cream pies, plastic squeeze bottles of mustard and ketchup. :o

Needless to say crap flies EVERYWHERE!!!! The first 8-10 rows of audience are wearing rain gear and are hiding under huge sheets of clear plastic dropcloth and umbrellas. He makes the most horrendous mess of the stage and audience and the fans are just screaming for more.

He's usually on HBO or if you can't get it that way, Blockbuster has some of his shows on DVD and VHS. Check it out and it'll explain everything.

So whenever someone recommends a Sledg-O-Matic type remedy for some problem.........."Now you know.....the REST of the story." (apologies to Paul Harvey)

I saw him when he was first doing his sledge O'matic spiel as a wandering show at Knott's Berry Farm Theme park. This was way before he became famous.

okay, so this is what I have gathered so far.

Post by Refuge »

This is a synopsis of what I have figured out from reading the Comic (not the commentary from RHjr, JUST the comic.)

The Rat King (as we see it here) was created by Beither, but not a Rat King as Quentyn knew them (as explained earlier in the comic, A nest of rats who's tails got tangled together, possibly they grew together so the rats couldn't seperate) After all, it can very well happen statistically. The difference between a 'normal' Rat King and THIS Rat King is obviously that Beither was Sadistic and WANTED to learn about how monsters were created. As stated, Beither intentionally created nasty things, trying to learn where they came from. This means a 'normal' Rat King would never satisfy him. My guess is that Beither didn't just cut some wounds into the Rats tails, and sew them together..... no no no. I gather that Beither probably opened up the tails to the bones, and nervous systems, and actually SPLICED them together (After all, a tail is nothing more than an extension of the spinal cord.) He would want to create as close a duplicate to the legends as possible. Possibly going so far as to breeding regular rats for their specific traits he would want (ie, intelligence, hatred of sentient beings, hearitness, etc) Another guess is that there would have been many attempts to get what he wanted, and this was the best one. I would assume that Beither put the Rat King in the 'Amber' to keep it dormant, yet alive, so he could study it later.

One thing I think may be possible is that Rosad Beither is not as evil as he is made out by Quentyn (Q would think him evil as that would be how he was taught from childhood). Mentally disturbed, yes, but possibly not evil. After all, He WAS a hunter at one time, and he was looking for a away to stop ALL monsters, his work in creating monsters was towards that end. After all, look at Hitler.. He is considered one of the nastiest evil men in the history of the world, but in terms of Germany, he did a lot for it's country. (Yes, Hitler did terrible, disgustingly horrible things, don't think I'm saying he didn't, or that they were excusable) I mean, he raised the quality of living for people in Germany, brough the economy up from ruin, turned the nation around from destitute, to one of the most advanced countries in the world, in a very short time. His problem was he was also obsessed with something (The death of his mother) and the fact he was also mentally ill, caused his judgement to be warped. I would imagine that Beither was the same way. His original goal was good, but his method towards getting there became warped.

Also, I would guess the Wights are nothing more than creations of the Rat King itself, RHjr mentions that the legend states the Rat King could call forth a 'army of rats from the shadows' The 'wights' are just that, the physical manifestation of what the Rat King wants/needs. The Army of Rats from the shadows.. Remember, legends quite often have a grain of truth.... The Rat King feeds off Lux, and creates these wight rats to do it's bidding. They in turn can eat lux and duplicate themselves...

Now the brown outs would probably be caused more from the Wights tapping the Ley lines than from the capacitor.... Capacitors don't cause brown outs, the just store excess energy. the Rat King isn't causing the brown outs, because it is using from the capacitor (it's like a rechargeable battery)

I would also imagine that the Pharoahs amber would lose it's potency over time (Much like prescription medicines do, or how food goes rotten, even in sealed cans.) Thus, this would allow the Rat Kings to excape, and would also explain why, though the creatures should be inert while in them, Quentyn was scared by something moving in one of the cases... the Amber is still keeping them alive, but NOT inert any more.

well, anyways, I could be wrong on some of those things, but it what I've either gathered, or theorized from what I have read.

RHjr has already stated that the Crystal is a capacitor, everything else is pretty much speculation. Feel free to correct me.

That's a lot of good speculation. B^)

Yes, I agree that RAB may not have been evil to start with, and it may even be that his goals weren't evil.

The methods he tried to achieve those goals were very very dangerous to himself and those around him, and of course kidnapping folks for his experiments was completely indefenseable.

BTW, did you realize that you invoked Godwin's law?
