Genesiscards
No, not another keen game (those are NEVER gonna see the light of day). I mean just a simple, normal deck of cards BUT with the pictures of Spacers (or rather their avatars) on them. That would be 52 cards in four suits plus two jokers, for a total of 54 cards and 54 Spacers.
I figure Kisai, Kelly and Ghastly as three of the Aces, McDuffies as one of the Kings, and Bob and Warren as the Jokers, but how to choose the rest as to avoid "haha I'm 5 you're a lousy 2" fights?
Two options come to my mind so far:
A) Seniority
b) Post Count
Of course, forum presence and a recognizable avatar (of sorts) should also play some part in this. What I definitely don't want is to place them in order of popularity, or their appearance in the Guide, or anything like that.
Suggestions? Nominations?
And more important, who wants to do the art?
[EDIT] 02/08/05 7:16PM PST
The name stays Keencards.
Aces: Kisai, Kelly, Ghastly. Hearts for Kisai, Diamonds for Kelly, Spades for Ghastly. We need a fourth ace. Suggestions?
Kings: McDuffies, War, CJ. War wants Hearts. We also need a fourth King; Warren says he wants to be a suicide king, but I've no idea what that means. So I'm keeping him in the Jokers until I find out.
Mercury Hat: Queen of Hearts
Ryan: any 10
Jim: 6 of Diamonds
Corgan Dane: 6 of Clubs
Spriteville: 5 of Spades
TLH: any 3
MariaandMichelle: the 2 of Hearts
Sam Charette, Ymmot: any 2
BrowneyedCat: any Clubs
Humbug: any Hearts
Pimpette, Grabmygoblin, BOMC, Mooman, stinkywigfiddle: whatever
Mr. Bob, Warren are the Jokers. Warren Black, Mr. Bob Red
Van wants the rules card; I think a knave would fit him, maybe in the same suit as War
KrisX wants some weird card I've never even heard of
Note that the above are just the suggestions posted so far.
Suggestion: War and Mercury's relation (not to mention Mr. Bob's violent hurling) aside, I think Hearts would go better for CJ, specially when you consider most female spacers want that suit. Maybe give War spades or clubs, as both are weapons?
We also still need more spacers: we can still do it by count, seniority, random drawing or by calling dibs on a card (though I don't think we'll get enough Spacers by the last method).
Art: I'd prefer if only one artist did the whole bunch, but that could be a tall order, specially with you damn college kids. The art should be iconic and stylized; the only artist that comes up right away in my mind is Van. Everyone doing himself would (probably) have the art ready most speedily, but visual coherency would be lost. Your call, people. I'm putting up a poll for the next week.
The back of the cards should be no big deal, since it's a single design; I'd prefer if RPin did it, he has an eye for eye-catching patterns.

Oh, the name is the least of it; I just want to deal some poker with your "faces" in the cards!
And I see YOUR card, Maria and Michelle, with one of you on each side (as opposed to the same image mirrored below).

Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Well, if you include me at all feel free to make me a 2. I don't careJexKerome wrote:but how to choose the rest as to avoid "haha I'm 5 you're a lousy 2" fights?
Otherwise I think mods/admins should be the higher cards because they bear more responsibility than most of us. Beyond that, I think post count. The higher your post count, the more recognizable you are, and we'd like people we recognize on the cards, right?
Just a thought, anyway.

And, actually, we'd probably be best as a two.Sam_Charette wrote:Well, if you include me at all feel free to make me a 2. I don't careJexKerome wrote:but how to choose the rest as to avoid "haha I'm 5 you're a lousy 2" fights?
Also, all else failing, assign everyone a list number, and randomize them.

Along with this deck, we need a new game... KeenPoker!
Each player is dealt three cards.
Bet.
Five cards are laid face up.
Bet.
Five more cards are laid in a second line, face up.
Bet.
Winner is the person who makes the best out of one card from their hand, two from the first row, and two from the second row.

I tracked his forum down

Apparently, this person wants to produce and sell the card and bitched and moaned on AIM to me that they own the name Keencards. Blah blah blah blah. They're really just full of hot air, threatening to sue some artists who are going to make some artwork that will be disributed amongst themselves for no profit.
I'd like to see her come and try. I hate bitches like that.

Historically, merely using the name isn't enough. You have to have some kind of loss - loss of identity, sales, reputation, etcetera.
In short - you can claim copyright on anything, but you can't easily enforce it unless you can show injury.
Two websites sharing an idea whose name is the same doesn't count.
Ironically, if we finish the design on any of the KeenCards ideas in the forums, produce the cards and can show that we have a product identified by the name Keencards, we could sue her.

What's funnier is the fact there are two companies - COMPANIES, out there called Keencards and Peachy Keen Cards and when I told her she should sue them she had nothing to say in her defense other than she wouldn't sue them.
It's funny - she was threatening to sue basicly everyone in this thread and have our comics removed from Keenspace by e-mailing Chris Crosby about it. She's got an ego this size of Scott Kurtz and his ego put together. She's shut the fuck up since I've showed her those 2 companies, though.
