What ever happened to KeenPrime
Speaking of brand confusion...
Does KeenPrime still exist? I know the main website does but I don't see any list of comics hosted on KeenPrime there. By golly if ever there was a group to be classified as "customers" it was the Primers, and look how well they were treated.
The prices on that page seem so 2001 too.
What comics were on KeenPrime? Are any of them still there? How many retreated back to Keenspace? How many were promoted to Keenspot?
If KeenPrime still exists it'll be interesting to see how it plans to survive once Webcomics Nation gets launched.

It's not here anymore. Good point too. I think Queen of Wands was a KeenPrime comic before getting Spotted, wasn't it?

Cosmic Drift is still on KeenPrime. The subject came up on the KeenSpot forums last month (link) - it still exists, but it's 'on the back burner' now. Cosmic Drift may be the only comic left on it.

Space has always been better than Prime from what I remember. I believe the big advantage of Prime was it allowed for Php which meant you didn't have to use Autokeen, you could use one of the bajillion freeware webcomic management programmes out there instead if you wanted, or write your own. Unfortunately they never got Php running on Prime and the Keen execs didn't want to devote the time to the system needed to get it running properly.
Space now has much more promotion to with what with the new front page and the newsbox. (and dirt cheap adspace for sale on a very popular comic

I think Prime appealed for those who:
a) Wanted to remove the Keenspace "stigma" of freeloading and detritus (no offense intended).
b) Wanted a quality server with uptime (Space's servers were absolutely horrible when Prime launched).
c) Didn't want to have to program an entire updating system in PHP or somesuch, because they want to spend that time on comics.
I wanted all of these things, and signed up for KeenPrime, but their shopping cart just gave me server errors and broken links.
So, in my grand tradition of ripping off Sylvan Midgal, I went to Lunarpages, then installed ATP Autosite (which is wonderful, uses date-based filenames, and takes about 45 minutes to set up).

Eat the Roses was on prime, but the archives kept dissapearing when I wasn't updating. At the time, it was more reliable than keenspace. But now Keenspace is super reliable. So basically keenspace replaced the need for prime. It was a good idea, and still is, just never seemed to pull together correctly.
Also, I could totally see everyone's stats.

I don't think we'll be seeing KeenPrime making a return. One more Keen property to compete against Spot and let's face it, WCN is going to blow it out of the water when it gets up and running. The prices on Prime are way too 2002.
Besides, we all know how fast Keen reacts. By the time they decide to return to Prime and get it up and running nobody will even be hosting on offsite server farms anymore. All our stuff will be hosted on wee little boxes from Radioshack in our own basements hooked directly up to the fiberoptic lines running into our houses.

Server Farms will be one of those things we tell our kids about, the way I tell all the young'ins about how the first computer programs I wrote were on punched cards.

If I knew their user name, which wasn't obvious, as all of us had domain names, I could type it in and suddenly see the complete stats with the same password I used. Not that our stats worked long enough to ever really feel like doing this once I figured out I could. But still,BloodKnight wrote:

I can still totally see everyone's underwear. And it ain't pretty.
