best and worst pages

Post by Wp »

I stole this idea from the Drunk Duck forums (sue me), but I'm really curious about this, especially since I don't have a comic yet.

What pages that you put up do you feel were your best and worst works? Why? It could be that you were just incredibly mistake-free that day, or maybe you just can't draw cars and that particular page required a car. Please post links of your top and bottom pages from your comic. I'd like to know the extremes, so limit them to at most three pages each. And for the worst pages, why did you decide to post them anyway?

ugh from 2002 to 2004 is a big difference, but not much.
i used to rush a lot which made horrendous messes such as this.

Image
gonna red-draw that when i'm done.

i think stylistically this is way better.

to more recently this, my much cleaner looking art.
and so kawaii!!

This is my worst by leaps and bounds, and I hate this page with a passion and want to shred it:

http://lint.keenspace.com/d/20040223.html

I was playing around with a totally different style. It was wrong. I learned from that catastrophe that the best thing is to go with your own style.

Sadly, well... not so sadly... my best pages by far are in the buffer so I can't show 'em, but they're better because of attention to detail and focus.

As for why I posted it anyway... well... I really didn't want to draw it again. Eventually I might, but I've pretty much adopted the policy of not redrawing, but trying to make the next page better instead.

I can judge my comic on various aspects, but in terms of artistic beauty, the worst one is http://chu.keenspace.com/d/20040528.html The best one is a bit harder, but I think the one that will show up this Thursday will be the prettiest so far.

My worst is most defenately

http://freakofnature.keenspace.com/d/20040504.html

I don't know what I was thinking putting it up, and every time I look at it I shove off deeper into either the newer strips or bleak depression.

My best is a tie between the one up now and the one for thursday.

http://freakofnature.keenspace.com/

Second runner up is:

http://freakofnature.keenspace.com/d/20040729.html

Enjoy.

The worst I would have to say is themost current one.

The reason it's up there? Because there hasn't been any content in a while. Also, just in case things weren't clear in previous strips it's nice to cover our butts. Probably won't stay in the archive, depends on the reaction it gets. I personally thought it was entertaining, though some readers may just get confused by the crayon.

My favorite would be this one.

I just like all the different camera positions, and just the entire layout of the page.

By Brian's "worst," I am once again reminded of http://clamversusman.keenspace.com/d/20040316.html . Why did he stop updating? Life is unfair.

In artistic terms, I've always been proud of this one:

http://mansionofe.keenspace.com/d/20040207.html

This is probably the most pathetic, which isn't surprising, since it's actually the oldest one on my site:

I'd probably say this is my worst page, artistically. I mean, look how big his head is!

http://aiyaiyai.keenspace.com/d/01113.html

This is probably my best page artwise overall, but...

http://aiyaiyai.keenspace.com/d/01130.html

The first panel in this page is, hands down, the best panel I've ever drawn.

best and worst

MY WORST -
The strip I like the least is this one:

http://thenoob.keenspace.com/d/20040712.html

I drew it at the seaside, straight with pen on paper (no pencil), and experimented with inking shadows. Which I don't have the first clue about it, and it shows. What's worst, is that I don't even think that the text is enough to make it better, it's kinda lame. Oh well...

MY BEST TEXT, AND MAYBE BEST OVERALL -
My all-time favorite, even if there are mistakes (Ohforf's eyes are grey in the 1st scene, the sky's white in one of the final scenes), is the one that I have used for the newsbox, just because I think that the Blade Runner replicant death speech ripoff is awesome applied to a high level gamer who's cancelling his account. I had more positive feedback on this page than on any other one, so I think I was onto something good.

http://thenoob.keenspace.com/d/20040618.html

MY BEST ART -
I love the drawing in my favorite one linked above, especially the pissed off dove, but I think that recently my drawing has improved a bit and the lines are less chunky. I think that the best I've done so far is the newbie hunting grounds, there's a ton of tiny details but it's still looks pretty good. It took three freaking days to colour it all though!

Some of my personal favourites:

http://saturnalia.keenspace.com/d/20020514.html Because it's 100% pure Kerbie.
http://saturnalia.keenspace.com/d/20031219.html Those last two panels.
http://saturnalia.keenspace.com/d/20040707.html For the art. It was fun drawing those people in the first three panels.

There's a lot of pages I love (whether it's for the art or dialogue), so it's hard to pick just three.

Worst pages:

http://saturnalia.keenspace.com/d/20020207.html I'd like to say "all of chapter 1," but this page is particularly bad.
http://saturnalia.keenspace.com/d/20030528.html Poorly drawn. I just couldn't draw that day.

Best? One of my most recent, in fact, but given my comic is in it's climax I imagine it will be replaced two or three times in the next twenty odd comics.

http://www.between-worlds.com/cwe-comic/75.html

And this one was good. I hadn't done much action before this yet it turned out fine.

http://www.between-worlds.com/cwe-comic/53.html

Worst? My second coic. Heck, most of the first ten or so aren't much better.

I resent my very first strip: http://sippan.keenspace.com/d/20031230.html

I don't think that kind of abomination has been covered in How Not To Start A Webcomic yet - but it should. What was wrong with me?

Favorites:
http://sippan.keenspace.com/d/20040120.html (The concept would look good on a T-shirt, maybe they would sell...)
http://sippan.keenspace.com/d/20040523.html (A pun so bad it's almost good)
http://sippan.keenspace.com/d/20040617.html (I've never drawn a better looking panel)

best strip i ever had
http://tnb.keenspace.com/d/20021010.html

and then of course I'm pretty happy about how my comics are turning out now
