uh... whoops? *L*
"A common misconception about squirrels is that they hibernate during the winter. While true that squirrels are rarely seen during extreme cold, this is because they remain near their nest where it is warm."
Well, at least it's a COMMON mistake... I take the blame for this one, i suggested the idea. I would have SWORN, though... *L* So stone me, not angie, we need her intact to draw more. ;)

Ummmm. . .
Nice to see Brem again, but I've never heard of a tree squirrel that hibernates.

Hallan> *lol* I find that mental image strangely amusing. ;)
Opiliones> Well, how many tree squirls do you know? That are called Bremusa? All that energy's gotta come from some place... ;)
Honestly, I don't know wether tree squirls hybernate. They kinda do in moralistic cartoons, right? *L* We can trust cartoons, right?

Actually, what squirrels REALLY do in the winter is pretty neat. You may notice lots of leafy, round "nests" showing up high in trees in the fall. They're called Dreys, and they are a squirrel's winter hideout when it does get too cold.
Now, ground squirrels and chipmunks DO hibernate. . .
Okay. That's my science lesson for the day!

SW> Well, actually, it was Delphine, Robert and myself i had in mind, unless mathematicians count. *L* Though neither of them has been here for a long time, i think we need to nag them. ;)
and of the three i am the least mad of the scientists, too. ;) no, honest. ;) i'm serious. ;)

{screams eminate from a closed door where a cackle and rubbing of hands can be heard, out pops -- well, me -- quickly closing the door behind him, he raises his goggles} Well ... er, I suppose you could call some of us 'Scientists', after a fashion.
So, anyways, frivolities aside, new guy I don't know then! {hands Op a can of beer nuts} Nice to meet you.

Hi, y'all, and thanks for the beer nuts!
Yeppers, I'm a scientist. . . I'm a bio teacher/wildlife biologist/basic naturalist-nature-lover-type person.
I tend to prefer insects over charismatic mega-fauna, well, except for my cat, who knows that she's more important than anything - and won't let me forget it.

Mel: Well I have to say that I'm not a Scientist, I'm just one of those people that reads, looks up and studies anything and everything they can get their hands on (just because) and probably, maybe could be a Scientist in something or other if they had the confidence to do so. Maybe.
I still love knowledge though nonetheless. I just don't show that side of me much, I prefer to be silly.
Opliwotsits: {thinks a moment, then remembers the 'PowerPuff Girls' Doc and the way he loved insects; "When humans are gone the radiation will mutate them and they'll become ten feet tall with giant feelers to crush ..." and backs away slowly} Er, yes. Insects are good. ;>
Personally I just like the common house Spider myself, they make the most beautiful webs and they eat the icky little bugs I don't have the heart to kill (though my Cat does, resulting in a real Circle of Life sort of deal).
Mel again: That would make a good t-shirt, wouldn't it?

Yes, Brem is back. Literally. ;)
And that's what I look like EVERY morning, until about noon. >;D
And as for squirrels hibernating, let me say THIS...if Baby hibernated, then my life would be SOOOOOOOO much easier. ;D
Happy Belated Bir-fe-day Angie! And congratz on #9! #1 should be just around the corner, right? ;D
*STEALS the nip from Kiva* *becomes high as a kite, and charges random walls* *clings to Momma Mel, Daddy Arno, and Thrice Removed Cousin Dubble* o-o The voices...
------------------

Welcome back Brem.
What exactly does woot mean anyway? all I know is that it's a sound alien Squirrels with big glowing tails make (well, "Woot-whoo!" to be precise - Grandia II). ;>

You know what I find interesting? *L* Jessie draws a comic and we actually get to learn something and get into discussions about squirrels... And before this, on how to SPELL the darn word. *l* Knowledge spreads here. Pretty soon we're going to have to innoculate everyone I guess. ;)
Mel> now mathematicians are TOO scientists! *L* Why do you think I went to university? *l* For the view from the top window? ;)
Kiva> *lol* Bremmie-nip? ... Is that legal? ;)
Opiliones> Wow, an actual biologist here, I guess we're gonna hear a lot of nits then. *l* Seriously, that's cool. :)
*L* I know lots of cat owners. they would all agree, I think. ;)
Bremusa> Hurrah! You're back! Er... Just... DOn't hurt the random bystanders... they're nice random bystanders... ;)
SpiritWolf> Funny you should ask that... *L* I asked her just the other day... Perhaps you get a more illuminating answer. ;)
