I always felt that Spot was the snobby one and Space the more open one. It's not like Space lacks talent, it's just that Spot likes to show off what they have more.

I can tell you that I, for one, will resist until the very bitter end becoming a subscription comic.
And I'll resist paying to read subscription comics till the very end. We'd make a good team.

In general, I'm adamantly opposed to anything where you pay by month. If I'm buying something, I want it to stay. I'll readily buy collections (I have about... 8 or so from online only comics, over 100 newspaper comics), because you get to keep them. It's not like at the end of the month, whoosh, that money's gone forever.

I don't think the whole spot situation is so much a matter of elitism as it is of apathy. The Keenspot team doesn't really seem to be that interested in doing stuff with Keenspot, even if it means more money for them. Even though it's in everyones' best interest, it's even more convient just to sit back and do nothing. It annoys me everytime Keenspot lets another comic go to MT because Keenspot is the best site from a user's perspective. But it doesn't look like they're doing anything about it.

On a side note -the first post of this thread would make half of the spotters have a heart attack.

Um... I wasn't around or anything at the time but it seems that the Spot bashing is a bit unwarrented. SL is quite extreme and there's nothing wrong with not wanting to be associated with it. I certainly wouldn't. There are limits. Those limits used to include Jeannie not showing er navel on TV. They're relaxed now but there still are and always will be limits.

As for not farming the Spacers, they have. There was a long time when they didn't add anyone and now they're collecting oodles of comics from both within Keenspace and without. They're not showing any bias towards Keenspace but I don't see any bias against it either. They just collect the ones they like and/or are popular.

Yes, I do agree they can have their standarts regarding the content of Spot's webcomics. But from a business point of view, letting SL go was a HUGE mistake.

Sexy Losers alone used to drive alone half of Boardy's bandwidth. Like Ghastly said, that's worth 2 million pageviews.

With the aid of Spot's advertising machine, it could as well be the biggest KeenSpot comic of all.

The last Keenspotted comics are just new works from the same spotters. And there's Skirting Danger, which came from Graphic Smash.

Spotting is more scarce everytime, and good people leaving keenspace is more and more common. I personally think Modern Tales is recruiting one hell of a team. When I have time, I scroll through the samples they offer, and it's like" WHOA!". On MT I don't have to worry about coming across something like (insert shitty keenspot comic here).

Umm, I'm subscribed to Slipshine, does that count? I swear, I'm just there for the brilliant writing! And all the artists there are awesome. Hard's there now, along with John from The Lounge, Tang as always, and others are equally awesome.

...

awesome is an awesome word.

I don't feel like naming names. But you must have heard me complaining about the quality of a spot comic or two at #keen.

*shrug* So what? Somewhere over fifty percent of the web is porn but that doesn't mean I should put any on my website. I'm gratified that their standards were actually worth something rather than dropped in favour of money.

Flawed logic. Keenspot has been making huge aquistions recently - in batches, yes, but still a concerted and ongoing effort to get more comics.

But where did they go first? Keenspace. Zortic, Zebra Girl and Adventurers were all Space comics if I recall correctly and they were all in the first batch. There may also be others but I don't read as many as some.

Space was the first place they thought of. They got the ones they liked and then moved elsewhere. So what's the problem?
RPin wrote:Spotting is more scarce everytime, and good people leaving keenspace is more and more common.
Well, yes, but there are more comics than ever before too. Percentages work better but even that would be flawed given the advertising market had some downtime. You couldn't expect Keenspot to make huge aquistions then.

Defend KeenSpot all you want, dude. It's all fine, but I'm not ranting against it. I'm not Ghastly, and I don't hate KeenSpot.

I just made a valid point: Keen is losing its talents to Modern Tales. You can brag about your logic all you want, but that's not going to change this fact.

EDIT:
So what? Somewhere over fifty percent of the web is porn but that doesn't mean I should put any on my website. I'm gratified that their standards were actually worth something rather than dropped in favour of money.
Also, if that's the case, why not block the subscriptions of adult comics on Kspace too, since we're on the subject? Why is it okay for SL to stay here and not on Keenspot?

Nonetheless, I said it's okay for them to have their moral standarts. I'm not complaining about that.

Neh. I wasn't really arguing against you, RPin, but rather the thread as a whole. It seemed a bit too unreasonably anti-Spot.

"Offical" statement.

KeenSpace is a service of KeenSpot Entertainment, just as KeenSpot is.

Therefore, when I refer to the company, I'll use the full name (KSE). The services I usually abreviate to 'Spot or 'Space.

'Spot is invite only, in which votes are cast by the owners (Chris, Teri, Gav, and Nate). 'Spot authors have some influence, as the owners may look for guidance from them. The criteria I do not know of them off hand. 'Spot server administration is by Gav and Nate.

'Space is free for all, ad-banner supported. We rarely reject now since implimenting a review process for comics. 'Space server administration is by me and Kisai, with assistance of Gav and (occassonally)Nate. Several comics on 'Space have made the jump to 'Spot, including Gene Catlow, Schlock Mercenary, Zortic, Shivae Studios, and Zebra Girl.

The comics that used to be ahead of us are gone now, but Keenspace's overall traffic hasn't gone down very much from last year. We're all still pulling in the views.

For good or bad, I still want to see some sort of archive of this infamous Sex Losers vrs. Keenspot thingy. I'm going off the word of only two or three people that this even happened (thus the problem with not keeping historical records). I'm not worried so much about whether it actually happened but how much it is being exaggerated.
