And to think that just this week we saw that movie about the Navajo code, um, I forgot the title in English....

Odd, where are they? Colorado? Arizona? New Mexico?

A big thumbs up to Ralph!! I have been writing fanfics in which the native anthros speak English as well as the aboriginal language of their region, namely, Navajo, Nahuatl (Aztec), Mohawk, etc.! It's nice to see someone else doing it too!!

I wonder how you say "I made a fool of myself" in Navajo?

So is Ben a native speaker, or did he learn it in school?

I'm trying to find a course to learn Nahuatl myself (as you can see by my icon)....

The Navajo are (or were) indigenous to the American southwest. They still live in portions of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. They're VERY interesting people, my roommate last semester was Navajo.

Actually, being mountain lions...they could be native speakers. As could Ben. Both animals are indigenous to North America...
This leads to some questions. Such as, does the species have to do with the cultural origin?

I use to work with a navajo .. He kind of looked at me real funny when found out what my nickname on the net is. Navajo is extremely hard to learn I've heard.

Navajo has no written component, it is a entirely oral language. That is what made it such an ubreakable code when used with trained radio operators. The Navajo communication experts actually created an entire code within the language, so when Japanese officers interrogated captured Navajo infantrymen who were not trained in the code, the messages appeared as gibberish to them, much to the frustration of the Japanese.

In a Chip & Dale fanfic I wrote (http://www.fanfiction.net), I have Dale's parents be Mohawk speakers, since (according to my fanfic), C&D live in New York City, and their parents are from upstate.

My brother went to college in Puebla, Mexico, and there he met a woman who was **100%** native Aztec!!

Her name?

Totocintle

I think her last name is unpronuncible, but it most likely ended in "-encatl".

Aztec has a written form, but it's in glyphs, like ancient Egyptian.

Ben is apparently native of Utah or Colorado, and other bears from the north would most likely speak Dakota, Inuit, Cheyenne, or Cherokee.

I loved this one! Especially since a couple of friends of mine did that once to some Japanese tourists. The Japanese were bitching about how rude the Americans were, and how stupid, and filthy, and .... well, you get the idea. If there was a bad thing they could say, they did.

My friends made the point by simply saying, in Japanese, "This is our floor, is it not?" "Yes, it is. Shall we?" And they left the elevator. Looked back at the tourists as the doors closed to see horrified looks.

I had the pleasure of doing something similar back in the days I worked on an early-morning stock team. Some co workers made the assumption that since I was white, I couldn't understand the insults they threw my way as I was walking by.

They weren't prepared for me to tell them in fluent Spanish that if they were going to insult me, they should have the courage to say it in English. We got along fine after that.
