Did somebody say “Science Contest”?

Post by James 73 »

Howdy!
Now this comic is getting interesting! ( Not that it wasn’t interesting before) You are touching on my subject of specialty. I am beginning to like the goddess of knowledge; I may even have to reconsider who my favorite character is. I wonder if a scientist could get around the rule prohibiting magic simply by providing a reasonable, scientific explanation of the magic, thereby making it no longer magical? Or am I completely missing the point? Ever since I began reading this comic, I have wondered what level of technology they have? And what are “ley lines” anyway? And have I asked too many questions?

I think Ley Lines are the sort of 'veins' of magic that flows as like a river.
Sometimes Fantasy is something more. . . .sometimes Fantasy is. . Real.

I believe the current use of the term is similar to the Chinese dragon lines, which I think is older and associated with geomancy (if I remember right)

what they are depends on who you ask, I've heard them called lines of earth energy, life energy, or spirit energy. Of course, any of those can be described as magic so ...

On the mundane level though one of the early uses of the term was just for ancient pathways (literal walking pathways I mean). seems even way back when people knew the shortest distance between two points was a line so they walked from one place to another using/making landmarks to keep them one course and walking straight toward them overtime things were built along the paths and they became worn. so that even today if you know what to look for you can see how the old paths (ley lines) went.

So take your pick or make up one of your own. :D

Rifts probably picked it up from the New Age movement. It's been the the term of choice for such lines there for sometime now ( I remember it being used back into the early 80's and I don't think it was new then)
