Hey, just curious what y'all think about this: Kids get out of class time to go sit in smoking sections at restaurants trying to block smokers ability to smoke (full sections= no smoking).

Very few places to do this in religiously conservative eastern Idaho, I think the kiddies went to a Denny's or something. Over here. . . they hang at Golden Palace and a variety of places.

Thoughts anyone?

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. So, getting an education is less important than fucking with smokers? Infringing on an adult's right to fucking smoke? Jesus! Am I understanding this correctly? I don't smoke myself, but FUCK!

Hey, I've got an idea!! Let's let the 18-year olds get out of class so that they can sit in porn booths and keep fucking consenting adults from masturbating!! Why learn when you can get a good, self-satisfied high from keeping naughty adults from satisfying their base impulses?

Maybe they can send some of those teens over to my house to steal my remote control so that I don't watch too much bad television. Maybe they can buy all of the junk food out of my local supermarket so that I start eating healthily!!! Holy shit, the possibilities are fucking ENDLESS!!

as I have stated, I smoke. This news grates on me worse than those "truth" ads they show on t.v..( If I had seen that kid dressed as a rat crawl out of the subway and pretend to die I would have ashed my cigarette on him and kicked him a few times.) I'm really not sure if the message I posted on the front page near the beginning of our run was read by too many people, so I'll type it in here for posterity.

I believe that people under the legal age to do any particular thing should not do said particular thing ( be it smoking, or drinking.) With that said, I believe that once those people reach said legal age, they should be allowed to make decisions for themselves. This is true for those that would make decisions that might get them killed. I think that if someone wants to do something that might kill them and they die, then they have been effectively removed from the gene pool, thereby clearing the way for normal decent folk to progress the human race further.( I'm sure you've heard of natural selection.)
This does even include myself. in case you were wondering.

Oh, man...don't get me started on those "the truth" ads. Using "extreme stunt" Tom Green-type tactics to get across your important anti-smoking message? Great, guys, great. So any level of idiocy, disruptiveness, and borderline illegality is fine as long as your delivering an "important" message, and of course, making yourself feel morally superior. These ads and that bullshit mentioned in the first post are concepts sprung from the same brain.

Hey, "truth" guys, here's a little message for YOU: Every fucking person in the world knows that smoking is fucking bad for them!!! Okay? They want to smoke anyway! Deal with it! Accept that people will do bad things to their body because they enjoy it. They will smoke, they will drink, they will eat at Jack in the Box! There is nothing you can do about it!!

I tell you, this generation we are raising right now is bound to be the most socially untrained, self-satisfied, ignorant and altogether unfit for real life bunch of fucking smug, entitled dipshits this country has seen since the baby boomers.

Please, please, make them stop.

I'm not terribly strong on the smoking issue (nonsmoker), as it's something that the media and popular culture have latched onto as the next great "evil".

Nancy Reagan did the same thing in the 80's with drugs. Despite the actual scientific and pharmaceutical research regarding the nature of drugs and their effects on the human body, our laws are written around a significantly less tangible public perception of the evil of drugs. Same thing is moving to outlaw tobacco.

I'll be upset when this happens to alcohol... or violent movies... or paganism... or heterosexuality or whatever else "They" decide to preach to their kids.

All that aside, the way they're acting upon their parent-given instincts is very poor. What good does it do? Very little outside of a personal level of irritation. These events are supposed to draw wide attention. As repugnant as those The Truth ads are, they are successful at raising several eyebrows.

This little stunt accomplished little of that, it seems, and alienated more than it enlightened.

And thirdly, the stodgy, reactionary, fundamentalist contingent of this nation rail on against the "liberal media" or the "pagan agenda" or whatever, and move to prevent us from inculcating their youth... and yet their ways are far more effective at brain-washing than anything I've seen come from radical elements!

No, I have no opinion.
Ancient relic of a by-gone era.

Good heavens! There's a movement to outlaw heterosexuality?

Ok. I know that, generally speaking, I am a man of few words on the forum (i generally try to keep it to one or two sentences). However, this discourse has sparked my attention. Therefore, I feel I should voice my opinion. First of all, the day they try to take my heterosexuality away from me is the day I lose my shit and fuck some stuff up. Not that there's anything wrong with gay people, as a matter of fact, I'm quite fond of bi-sexual girls. What can I say, I've got a fondness for them (just look at the strip...I wrtie it, you know).

My main point is this...I've smoked for over half my life. Yeah I know it's bad for me. So what! I don't care. I also started doing illicit drugs before I was old enough to get in an PG-13 rated movie without my parents being with me (I've since stopped just because I felt it was the right thing to do at the time..although recently I've been feeling the urge to do some). I drink quite regularly and I enjoy it! So, my point is this,...If you do things that are bad for you and you're not intelligent enough to realize you need to quit, then maybe the world would be better off without your genes replicating for future generations. These are just my thoughts. Take them for what you will.

I think what this forum needs is a quote from Denis Leary. "I love to smoke!" Ok, that's enough. Go listen to No Cure For Cancer if you have an unquenchable urge to hear the rest of it.

I smoke. I love to smoke. It's going to kill me. It has already killed several of my relatives. Guess what? I DON'T CARE! I do plan on quitting at some stage - roughly around the time I get a desire to aquire kids - but until then, the hell with it.

I know that many people sleep through anything in their Jr. High health classes that doesn't have to do with sex (I did, anyway) but you CANNOT have survived in this country long enough to purchase the things without knowing they're bad for you. They put warnings on the fucking pack, for god's sake! The pack on my desk right now says "Somking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Empysema, And May Complicate Pregnancy". I think that makes it pretty clear.

The point is this - people who smoke do it in spite of the risks. We do it because we enjoy it. Obnoxious ads from some group who has the gall and the ego to call themselves Truth are not going to reduce my desire to smoke in the least - and I think ashing and kicking the tool in the rat suit is letting him off lightly, by the way.

*climbs off soap box*

By the way, those of you out there who enjoy smoking for the experience - what are the preferred brands? I personally think your average gas station pack tastes like ass. The best cigarettes I have tasted to date are Nat Sherman Classics - see the link below. Anything else I should be turned on to? I like my cigarettes strong and smooth.

until recently I was smoking Kamel Reds (yes, they spell it with a K) It's about the stoutest (cigarette) I've smoked. I had to cut back to the Turkish Gold tho.
RJ Reynolds makes a great cig.

Oh yeah, did anybody know that the Phillip Morris co. was behind the TRUTH ads?
The whole campaign is designed so that they can say they have "informed" the public of the harm their product causes.

Phillip Morris is behind the most vehement and hateful anti-smoking campaign ever? Featuring ads showing guys in rat suits dying from cyanide and little messages on urinal cakes warning of the presence of ureic acid in cigarettes? WTF? Informing the public is one thing, but telling them that your product contains cyanide is quite another.

IT'S A MADHOUSE!!! A MAAAADHOUSE!

So, what are these truth ads? A guy in a rat suit, how bad is that? Down here, our antismoking ads try to show you the downside of smoking, for example theres a guy in hospital on a resperator trying to talk to his young daughter. Quite sad. Or theres the one where they disect a human lung and pour tar all over it, to show you what effect smoking has. The first one is ok, but the second type sparked a bit of controversy at first. Though, the one with the aorta full of yellow gunk was more disgusting in my opioion.

Much like godpoop, i myself am usually a man of few words most of them i make up, but that is entirely besides the point. My point is this: Being the fact that i am for the most part a sentient human capable of rational decision making, although most people who actually know me would probably say otherwise, but yet again that is also beside the point. What i'm trying to get at is, smoking is something that i have chosen to do. My smoking is no more harmful than the average soccer-mom who has to down a bottle of wine and a handfull of vicaden just to go to sleep. Granted the previous statement concerns only me, not the general public. I don't go to day-care centers and hand out marlboros's to toddlers. I'm a partially compassionate person, I know second-smoke is harmfull to those around it but i try to keep my personal second-smoke from those that don't care for it. I don't smoke just to ruin somebody else's day. I also don't hang around the neo-natal intensive care unit and blow smoke in the incubators. This is the way the mass-media pigeonholes smokers, we're horrible people and murderers. The whole thing pisses me off, those bastards!

Actually, in my experience, despite the fact everywhere outside eastern Idaho there sure are a lot of smokers. . . I've found them all to be fairly polite. Generally people ask me if I mind (and those around) if they smoke. I usually say no, but then again, they are good at ventillating the car or outdoors. Inside a confined space I may be inclined to say "yes", as it seems to irritate my skin into hives for some reason.

Idaho's anti-smoking ads are terrible, but lately have been shock attacks especially on chewers.

Chewers SUCK!!
The most repulsive thing I can think of to watch or hear, is someone spitting in a cup or bottle. The policy where I work is that all spit containers must be opaque, but that doesn't mute that God awful squirting sound that's made when a chewer decides to spit. Smokers have to go outside,(the department I work in is esentially outside) but a spitter can sit inside around a bunch of people and spit to his (or her) content. Where is the justice in that?

That's definately not justice. And let me tell you. . . its not fun to watch a certain classmate spittoon into a juice bottle day after day. It looks like he's drinking "cola juice." ick.

I dont know anyone who chews. Ive only ever seen it on TV. I didnt think people actually did it any more. Anyway, I dont smoke, and dont inted to either. If other people want to smoke, thats ok, as long as its outside and they're downwind. Oh, and no smoking anywhere where theres food. Thats just disgusting. Fortunatly for me, they outlawed smoking in any restraunt in Australia. Do you have that over there?

Outlawed smoking in restaraunts is one thing. Here on the east coast we still have smoking sections (though they are becoming more and more isolated from the non-smoking sections) Over in California they've outlawed smoking in BARS! That's going too far!

Yeah. Smoking in bars or any public building other than a smoke shop... GONE. What the hell? If you can't smoke in a bar, where can you smoke? Smoke, drink beer, shoot pool. That's kinda the point, no? If you can't stand the smoke, don't go. If you can't stand alcohol, don't go. If 8-balls make you break out in a rash, don't go. Dammit. At the bar I frequent, you can't take the drinks outside either...
