I recently got the Akira Special Edition, as well as the Goonies Special Edition, and they both rule.
Goonies has a commentary track that features all seven of the Goonies all grown up...as well as Richard Donner too. Everty now and then the main screen moves to the bottom right and the commentary is shown, and it's crazy to see all the Goonies grown up. Chunk's skinny! Freaky.
Akira, rules too...even if I will miss Leonardo from T.M.N.T. screaming Tetsuo...
Anyway, check em both out. If you've got the money. And a DVD player.
I just loves me some DVD Special Editions.

T2 is one of the bigger SE's I have. There's the Army of Darkness SE with both the AMerican and European versions of the film. Night of the Living Dead (1990) SE's fun. Lots of special effects reels with cutscenes on it. Conan the Barbarian SE is spots; nice commentary by Arnold talking about masturbation. Desperado/El Mariachi SE (is that an SE?) has a lot of shit for both films; very insightful commentaries by Rodriguez.
I'm sure there's more.

Excellent Special Editions:
Any of the David Fincher Special Editions (Se7en, Fight Club)...
Any of the Kevin Smith Special Editions
Any of the Criterion Collection...
Some of the John Carpenter Special Editions (The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China)...
Enemy at the Gates has a fairly decent SE...as does the Mummy... I'm sure I can think of a lot more. I just have to be there with my collection. Heh.

This peeves me off. Here in Oz we get Fuck All SE editions, we have No Kevin Smith movies on DVD, T2 has JUST the movie on the DVD, Army of Darkness will prolly NEVER be released on DVD, and Akira won't be relesased until November,
u doods in america are so fucken lucky in that respect.
But the good news is that on the weekend I'm gonna pick up a one for all remote that will give me region free playback on my philips DVD using the Philips remote hack. kickass. but now because our dollar is weak and your dollar is strong, I have to pay about double the normal price to get them.
what you gain on the roundabout, you lose on the swing, hey?
------------------
