more of a rambling, than a full-out list, but here goes:
mcfarlane's amazing spider-man ishes
long halloween
marvels
kingdom come
jla (especially the two green arrow issues)
"change or die", stormwatch
fred hembeck destroys the marvel universe
ultimate x-men #1-6
squee!
and yes, dark knight returns and watchmen, too.
on a side note, how much are mainstream comics kicking ass these days?
i mean, it's only one ish into morrison's x-men, but that was damned good. the afformentioned 'ultimate'-books. kevin smith's green arrow is a little better than his daredevil, imo, so far. allred's x-force? and ennis doing a spider-man story?
heck yeah.
geek out.
oh. and preacher should be up there, too. duh.
[This message has been edited by the zeppo (edited 06-13-2001).]

old ollie queen green arrow stuff, the new stuff's not bad either. Ellis' wildstorm books, and just about any old dc book. GiJoe. Kingdom come was good, AoA was good. I could live on old dc and gijoe though. Especially green arrow and batman. It's just the characters I love.

ohhhh yeah... see, this is why i hate definitive lists. some things are always missing.
Add the following to mine, if you will:
Unknown Soldier
Infinity Gauntlet (including Thanos Quest)
The Peter David/Gary Frank run on Hulk
and Scud.
Jinx wasn't too bad, either. And I heatily recommend a lot of the current Vertigo books that are being published. Except fot the nonstop Sandman spinoffs. The book's dead. let it rest...
Kingdom Come didn't float my boat. Might be my dislike for Ross and Waid clouding my opinion, might be that it was just sucky. Maybe both.
First issue of Allred's X-Force was amazing. Fantastic. For the first time in years, I have faith in Marvel.

Man...why's everyone always all "oh, oh, oh Watchmen! WATCHMEN!!" But no one every says boo about V for Vendetta? Personally, I liked V for V better then Watchmen. Not that Watchmen wasn't good or anything, but some parts of it just didn't really work for me. Whereas, VfV (it just keeps getting shorter, doesn't it?) was great all the way through and back again. Oh, and as long as I'm bashing fan favorites, lemme get one more quick jab in here, Preacher. It'd been a great series if it had run about 12 issues shorter. I think it overstayed it's welcome. You could just tell Ennis was milking it for everything it was worth. Though...I must admit, I was unimpressed with the ending the first time I read it, I recently reread the TPB and I liked it somewhat better. Still thought it was kinda lackluster, but I did like it more.
Okay, now that I've bagged on those let me list some of MY all time favorites, once more, in no particular order:
1) Static (in my opinion, some of the best teenage superhero stuff ever done)
2) The Blood Syndicate
3) Xombi
4) Poison Elves (esp. the first 3 trades)
5) Transmetropolitan
6) The Incredible Hulk, Peter David's run
7) Every Sin City run
8) All Grendel, but esp. Grendel Tales: Four Devils, One Hell
9) Mage
10) Dark Knight Returns, of course
11) Planetary
12) The Authority
13) Spider-Man, Kraven's Last Hunt
14) The Infinity Gauntlet
15) Stray Bullets
I'm sure there's more, but that's what's right off the top of my head.

------------------

Let me add the entire Joe Kelly run of Deadpool (issues 1-32 or 35 or so) to my list. I can't think of another run that I enjoyed so much, or laughed so hard at. Through this run alone, I got four people to start reading comics. Joe Kelly's da man...it's too bad he had to leave the series before he wanted to.
------------------
-BOB-
Anti-Quebecian to the end.
