We may finally know what is wrong with the wife. Medically speaking, of course.

Re: What made YOU happy today?
Stopped by JB on the way back from the city to pick up some CDs (the live Swifty one of course plus New Found Glory and Rise Against for those who are curious) and had a delightful encounter with a fellow shopper. The woman bumped into me with a pointy umbrella and the following conversation ensued:
me - ow! fuck
woman - don't swear it's not polite
me - fuck off
What can I say I get a little cranky when someone pokes me with something pointy and doesn't apologise.
But it makes me smile now.

Ha, the best part is I can picture saying the second part without realizing it included a swear, and then realizing it after a beat. Also funny would be if she had said "Don't fucking swear."

Just got back from visiting my sister for Thanksgiving with the family. I ate way to much and am now ready to spend the next few days sleeping and digesting.

A good night's sleep for the first time in many weeks, a breakfast of apple pie, and an awesome turkey sandwich for lunch.

Rise against still shocks me, how quickly a band of like ten years of awesome suddenly fell into regurgitation horror. I am down with bands making loads of bank, and I understand the gradual demise of bands who have been around a while. but, it was like they had the one last record, Siren of what ever, and from there, it has been pretty painful to watch. but like a traffic accident its hard to look away. haha.RobboAKAscooby wrote:Stopped by JB on the way back from the city to pick up some CDs (the live Swifty one of course plus New Found Glory and Rise Against for those who are curious) and had a delightful encounter with a fellow shopper. I'm also curious if the guys are still keeping up supporting vegan grassroots organizations or if they've thrown their lot with the lame Animal welfare groups, who just take people's money to fund BMWs, and euthanasia. (IE PETA, HSUS,etc) that for some reason celebrities like to do. I'm not going to morrissey tonight, cause I know they have a PETA table set up, and I know I will mess with them because of the disdain I feel about them. Just looking at how far back Animal Welfare has pushed back the AR movement in the last decade.
waaaiiit this is what made you happy today... it was nice hanging out with some friends over the four day holiday.

I had to supervise and manage slightly less than I was worried I would have to. Also, the Deployment Excellence Award is officially and entirely out of my hands, so that's a GIANT checkmark in the "DONE" column. Major frickin' win that I really needed, now to see how we do at the top level of the competition...
If we take first I get a commendation.

Yeah I can agree there, I haven't heard their last one yet though but they have slipped a lot from their start out.Phact0rri wrote:Rise against still shocks me, how quickly a band of like ten years of awesome suddenly fell into regurgitation horror. Sometimes I just go to punk/emo/alternative/hardcore/whatever they want to call it this week section and pick out anything that sounds familiar and don't really delve into the band so much just look for good tunes.
PETA is a joke, a bunch of self-righteous fascists who spend far more on advertising than they do on bettering the cause of animal welfare. I make my donations to small charities I know are making a difference.
And on what made ME happy today news....
...
...yeah can't really think of anything sorry.

Lou Reed with Jon Spencer Blues explosion... Lou Reed with Antony and the Johnsons.. were all superb. Then again I like those bands. The only cool thing metalica has done with another band that comes to mind was the Verses Die Krupps thing. That was pretty awesomeRobboAKAscooby wrote:I have heard so many bad things about this that I don't know whether to risk itMcDuffies wrote:Phact, have you heard a Lou Reed/Metallica record?

Re: What made YOU happy today?
I think I have something like that here. I got a lot of Cave bootlegs but I ended up not getting around to listen to them, bootlegs usually just make me want to listen to regular albums again anyway. There's this fake bootleg thats been going around foe years of Peter Murphy/Nick Cave/ Tom Waits that entirely cover bands impersonators. Its pretty hilarious.
What I heard on youtube seemed pretty embarrasing to me, but a kind of embarrasment that Lou Reed fans will fiercely defend. I don't listen to Reed too often, but it seems like general consensus is that he constantly undermines himself, following each well-regarded album with a few awful or at least very inacessible ones. In any case his fanbase is such that nothing he does now will change his career path much.RobboAKAscooby wrote:I have heard so many bad things about this that I don't know whether to risk it.McDuffies wrote:Phact, have you heard a Lou Reed/Metallica record?
Metallica on the other hand is a band on a constant downward spiral, fanbase dissipating with every new album, the very definition of the difference between "popular" and "loved". I can see how Reed would still percieve them as this huge band, or be flattered that these new whipsnappers want to collaborate with him, but they don't have anything to add to such project. They're desperately looking for a new direction, I can imagine them doing a kind of Tool/Mars Volta thing next, because that's what metalheads listen to now, right?
Peta is a kind of misstep that doesn't just happen when well-intended people get it wrong, I always think there's more of a story there than we know.PETA is a joke, a bunch of self-righteous fascists who spend far more on advertising than they do on bettering the cause of animal welfare.
There's also Gorillaz. Although Mark Smith's song was more impressive.Lou Reed with Jon Spencer Blues explosion... Lou Reed with Antony and the Johnsons.. were all superb. Then again I like those bands.

Re: What made YOU happy today?
You should read up on exactly what Animal Wefare is, and how it differs from Animal rights, Animal Liberation, and animal abilition. PETA does a great job as an animal welfare company. Animal welfare is all about making little battles in the hope that maybe, just maybe, one day in a billion years from now, animals will be treated as living creatures as apposed to property. so instead of taking on the task of actually making things better, they spin campaigns on things like giving water to a cow on her way to the slaughter house. cause I mean if your sentenced to death in a place that makes a concentration camp look like the a four star hotel, at least you got your thirst quenched!RobboAKAscooby wrote:PETA is a joke, a bunch of self-righteous fascists who spend far more on advertising than they do on bettering the cause of animal welfare. The concept that many of the companies rely on is waging campaigns they know they can win, or make headlines. Drink Beer not milk, was pretty awesome though!
Btw a little curious what grass roots groups do you donate/support? I work pretty heavily with WAR (win animal rights) and volunteer regularly with two Los Angeles based rescue groups.

I volunteered last night at the Salvation Army, Angel Tree Project. I'm required to do 3 hours of community service every semester of pharmacy school. It was a really great experience and I will probably volunteer again after finals are done.
