Yes, you Americans enjoy your strange and wonderful holiday.Corgan_dane wrote:Just wanted to wish everyone a happy (American, of course) Thanksgiving!

On that note I had an American customer ask me what I was doing for Thanksgiving the other day, it took a while to explain why we don't have the holiday in Australia.

I like to consider Thanksgiving "Christmas Lite," in that it has all the food and family with none of the presents, music or decorations.
It's like a Christmas dress rehearsal.

Re: Happy Turkey Day!
Happy thanksgiving, I work 8hr in the morning then am going to drive 5 hr to see family I barely know and eat too much food. maybe even play a game of scrabble.
also the packers game will be on while I'm driving, so I'll have to listen to it on the radio
I could watch it on my phone but that wouldn't be very safe, plus verizon wants 10$ a month to stream the games. outrageous!

I'll be going to the gym in the morning to ramp up my metabolism, and cause I've not been in a couple of days, then I'll be getting a little work done before going home to make kugel and sautee mushrooms for the potluck dinner I'll be attending with my co-workers and friends!! I've been asked to bring Munchkin, and I also just got Cards Against Humanity. It's like Apples to Apples...but darker and more twisted.

Just wanted to pop in and wish all my CG pals a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!
It's been a hell of a year for us this year - but not in a good way. There haven't been many highlights, but even still, I'm thankful that we survived Mrs. Bunny's period of unemployment with our finances intact, and that I have friends like you guys to commiserate with.
But now tis time to get ready for the evening, so I'll see ya around. Be back soon!

Re: Happy Turkey Day!
Happy Thanksgiving friends! I ended up going to two dinners tonight, and I have had a blast and acquired lots of leftovers. My kugel was less of a success than desired, but I did stay up until almost 1:15AM talking with a dear friend who I've had the pleasure of working for and with during the past year. I also played Cards Against Humanity, which is probably the most insane and twisted party game I've ever played. I highly recommend everyone go and get it and find friends who you're comfortable saying twisted shit around....then prepare for a night of hilarity.
I hope everyone is doing fantastic and has a wonderful day. I'm really thankful to have friends like you around, just like I'm thankful for a job I love that pays well, a roof over my head that lets me live comfortably, enough food in my house to feed me well, family and friends who I love and who love me back, and a beautiful and smart and amazing girlfriend who has in a month made me feel happier than I can ever recall (with the possible exception of being at SDCC or PAX, though it is REALLY close). I'm super thankful for all my blessings, and I hope that everyone else can have such wonderful things in their lives and be content and well

It was a good thanksgiving this year. Lots of good food, time spent with family, and I have a crapton to be thankful for this year. Hope everyone else had a good time too. Now though I must prepare to work Black Friday. Thankfully, though it'll be a long day, I actually like my new job, so I expect it to be a good day for making lots of money.

Re: Happy Turkey Day!
Thinking about it, in theory I should really hate US Thanksgiving. Being navajo and a vegan. But really I like the idea behind it. I just wish people would get off of taking the day to feel for how first people were treated. I mean there are A LOT of other days for that, and thats not the meaning of the holiday at all, and sort of shits on the kindness that was offered. Its not as though its actually your fault. Enjoy the time off work, and be thankful for stuff.
I want start using Christmas as the day that I feel sorry for all the people who died during the second and third crusades. And obviously Halloween should be a sorrow filled day remembering all the witches who were burned at the stake.

Why else do you think we dress up like goblins and witches and vampires and other such things? To terrorize the Christians in revenge!!!! You guys are such pessimists, always focusing on the bad stuff.RobboAKAscooby wrote:Not to mention Easter for the slaughter and subjugation of the Celts.Phact0rri wrote:I want start using Christmas as the day that I feel sorry for all the people who died during the second and third crusades. Seriously though, history is a wealth of terrible events to which all the good events simply can't measure up. Noone deserves to carry that big a burden. The best we can do is to not actually glorify things like crusades, colonialism, etc, which sadly many people still do.

That was my point, and with it I left a joke, to be snarky. But ultimately I think people should remember to enjoy themselves, once in a while. Its like the whole Atheists on christmastime like its not well known that all christian holidays cover up pagan ones in the early times to further spread the religion. heh.McDuffies wrote:You guys are such pessimists, always focusing on the bad stuff.RobboAKAscooby wrote:Not to mention Easter for the slaughter and subjugation of the Celts.Phact0rri wrote:I want start using Christmas as the day that I feel sorry for all the people who died during the second and third crusades. I don't practice any specific religion and I still celebrate Santa Day like any one else would.
Although I do occasionally mess with ultra-religious types when they try to "enlighten" me.
The holidays should be about the important things, spending time with the people you love, appreciating what life has given you and eating enough food you have trouble getting up from the table.

Coincidentally, you should consider accepting Jesus Christ as your saviour.RobboAKAscooby wrote: I don't practice any specific religion and I still celebrate Santa Day like any one else would.
