Actually, they aren't near Rome. They're just within the borders of the empire going to the city of Rome...
And I actually had a whole week planned for this, but had to cut it short for other timings to happen properly...That's why these are so wordy.
My original plan...They head through the crucifixes....Jody finds the hill, tells Atom she'll be right back... Goes up to Jesus, offers him some water and basically this speech...
"You know, I never beleive you were more than just a good man with bitchin' ideas...and I know you hate hearing that...because you think you're right...who doesn't think they're right? *smirk....quickly fades* But, I do know you mean a lot to a lot of people for a long, long, long time....And I know you've brought hope to people, and I know you've inspired others, and I know that you believe you'll die here for them for all time...And even if you're not right, and I am, or you are right, and I'm not- it doesn't matter, because either way you're made to suffer for being a bit different in your ideas and whatnot...and that's wrong....I don't know about water to wine, or adam and eve...but what I do know is hope, and love, and the 10 commandments of 'thou shalt not kill', and 'thou shalt not steal' which define the fundimental laws for all modern civilizations...And I know, that even thou I don't follow you- I've been affected by you, all people have, and I think in a good way...so- i guess...thanks....man...Good bye...and if I am wrong in my beliefs...Well, I'm a good person..at least I think I am...I mean *sigh* You can understand that right? Bye"
Those words are from my notes... Almost exactly what Jody (or I) would say...
I mean what do you say?
-glych
------------------

oh lawd...hahah, i have to comment on this.
glych, i must stress this with the utmost importance, before making religious or political statements, do the research--and think your statement through before presenting it.
that's the problem with todays youth, always relying on hearsay, comic books, and movies. hahaha.
meanwhile thousands of books (and other various literary, uh, STUFF) go unread.
sigh.
oh well.

I think the Xtian population is a tad more laid back than you think, Glych. There are exceptions of course, but your comic strip is about a couple of Immortals, an athiest, and a Demi-God. As well as Glych, the High Goddess of this world. (Not that I'm worshipping you, lass, to Jody, Atom, Spons, and Kat you *are* God)
I think they'd have quit reading long before getting to the crucifixes.
As for what I'd say... I'd look at Jesus sadly, and apologize for what Man has done to him. And offer him some soothing healing energies (not to lengthen his suffering, but to decrease the pain) if he was willing to accept the gift. And finally give him the Blessings of the God and Goddess.
I doubt I could go through the crucifixes though. That much suffering and pain would likely drive me completely insane.
I'm not sure if I'd tell Jesus what lay in store for his religion in the future. It might be a kindness... or it might be one of the most evil things to do to a dying man. Because I'd have to give the bad as well as the good.
But we all know I'm evil.
------------------

I'm not sure there is anything you can say to make it better for one who is suffering on the cross.
Save maybe "I'm sorry."
Of course I'm still confused on how after meeting two GODs one can still be an atheist.
-Captain Mike

Well.. chances are very slim they could even see Jesus, since he never was anywhere near Rome..
Perhaps Paul or Peter or some of the other disciples.. (some of which got crusified near Rome)

quote:
Of course I'm still confused on how after meeting two GODs one can still be an atheist.

By not considering them gods, but just different, more powerfull. What seems like a god needn't be one.. Not even if they were to call themselves so..

I do do my research...I am also a wealth of useless facts....
In fact my "the truth about history", "the people's history", and "civilization and the human animal throughout the ages" books have been opened and studies more in these past few weeks than I think ever since they were written...
In fact, my "people's" book lost a page and i had to tape it back in I've read and scanned it so much lately...
-glych
------------------

If one were to see Jesus being crucified... Well, I for one, wouldn't say anything. Why? Several reasons. First off, the crowd would probably have stoned you if you had said anything publicly nice about him. He's supposed to be the one dying for our sins, not the other way around. If you go and get yourself killed over that, it makes his sacrifice somewhat pointless, doesn't it? Furthermore, Say for instance that Christianity is true and all (Which is the whole basis of talking to him, isn't it? Just in case its true. Which, by the way, is somewhat selfish, isn't it? But I know i'm guilty of worse...) then wouldn't he know what you were thinking already as soon as he got to heaven and was rejoined with God? Well, at least thats my view on it...

Ah-...but the Pursian empire was the later mesepotanian civilization, depending on which anthropologist you ask....
I was going on this kind of lines...I know my timing is a bit off....it would have flowed better if I had been able to do my Egypt storyline (DAMN YOU SCRUBBO AND YOUR MATRIX, DAMN YOU!)
-glych
------------------

And you would claim books are not 'hearsay'?
By some magic you will experience in no lesser way what the author experienced?
A good movie is no worse than a good book. And a bad book no better than a bad movie..
It's not so much the medium but it's quality that matters.. Not really fair to judge one on it's best examples and an other on it's worst, now is it..

Todays comic puts the beginning of the story at around 500 BC.. While the mesopotamian civilization was over 2000 years earlier..
Of course there were other later civilizations in the same erea..
But Atom's village didn't strike me as being from 500 bc either.. seemed much more primitive (stone age, rather than bronze age)
300 bc would be around the time of Alexander the Great(356-323 B.C) I think (in the comic it notes the fall of 'the mesopotamian civilization'). Which would correspond better with the fall of the Persian empire.. (and consequent take-over)
It's somewhat open to interpretation though.. (The Persian empire was sort of a mesopotamian civilization after all)
( http://home.achilles.net/~sal/ur.html http://1stmuse.com/alex3/alex-synopsys.html

(The Shadows surround wherever they abound.)
Don't worry, glych. You haven't offended any true christians. That's because Jesus taught tolerance and forgiveness. As for me? I take the Romans' side, since I can easily understand their thinking.
Dark Knight http://dk.keenspace.com

Well, I suppose Jesus was inciting to Riot the masses.. ^_^;;
I read a great book about ten years ago called "And if Jesus were born today?" about the author's ideas of what the reactions to the second coming would be..
.. As to dates and orders of what came when, I can't say I was paying that much attention, I was enjoying the story presented instead. For the best reader can suspend belief.
