The Grand Unveiling!
Figure I should spill the beans on a little project I'm working on. Jake knows what it is, but all of the rest of you were too busy to listen, so...
Tomorrow! I shall post about this! Yay placeholder topic!

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Okay, so I've begun to make a 2D Fighter freeware fighter based off of our group and the Dreamaniac comic. I will be making regular updates to this topic a la SSBB, hopefully every Monday and Friday from here on in. But, with this special first upcate, I'd like to give everyone a look at the roster:
Jake - Balanced
Andrew - Speed based
Neil - Ranged based
Mark - Meme Fu
Amelia - Charge based (Like Guile, not HOS)
Elliot - Possibly Rushdown
Shelby - Summon/Traps based (software dependant0
Neki - Possibly "Double Character"
Eric - Gauge Dependant Specials based (think Hakumen with Eeveelutions)
Andre - Mix-up based
Nico - Honestly, I have no idea...
Jeraldo - Strength based
Whippy - Lethal Joke Character (tiny sprite, can hover, very little health)
Post comments.

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Whippy wouldn't be a seperate character; he sticks with me, dangit.
I was thinking Nico would use zoning shenanigans to screw with other players. That's how his arguments tend to work.
This is gonna be awesome. Will figure out some sample art stuff when my brain starts working again.

I plan on incorporating Whippy in your character, but I also wanted a poofball character with stange hitboxes, so yeah...

Ooh boy, rushdown! My favorite play style!
And yes, Niko needs to be a rangegame character.

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
I'm trying to think of what my 'balanced' fighting style would look like. I was thinking enthusiastic and straightforward, with a few 'off-balance' moves thrown in for good measure. And I know that I'd utilize Whippy in a few ranged attacks.
Andrew, could you post some of the details regarding the actual game system? It would aid me in developing some mockup drawings and providing ideas about the mechanics.

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
For Nico, dependant of software limitations, I plan on making him a counter based character (get it, arguements, COUNTER-arguements...so witty), but if the community wishes for another ranged character, it may happen.
Tomorrow's update (taking place at midnight tonight) will detail the game mechanics I plan to include. Stay tuned!

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Actually, I like the counter-based Nico idea. It's got my approval.
Been designing some stuff for my Grandpa and Theatre. Apparently they realized I was decent at art stuff and decided to make use of that.
Edit: Started drawing a mock-up teaser drawing, check it out: Will finish it eventually.

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Aaaand...ta daaaa!
Ideas for Elliot's attack system.
Basically, I have three weapons. DS, graphing calculator, and greatsword. None of my normals use them, because they're just pokes and sweep attacks. My main special is a 214(insert button here), which takes one of those weapons out of my pocket depending on the button pressed.
Light = DS(attacks with stylus)
Medium = Graphing calculator(a system of linears forms a bladed point jutting outward)
Heavy = Greatsword(long arching slashes/uppercuts)
Once the weapon is out, my normals/generic rushdown specials take the form of that weapon until I switch it with another. In this, I would have three supers.
DS Super = 632146(insert button here) = Initial slash, appear behind enemy. "So, you're a Sony fan, huh? Can your PSP do this?" Ten slash combo, form reset facing opponent on the left side.
Graphing calculator super = 236236(insert button here) = "Final Equation! One divided by zero!" Throws calculator at enemy, black hole forms, one hit attack, moderate damage, enemy form reset a few character lengths away after being sucked up and spat back out(they don't come back if that move is used to finish)
Greatsword super = 2141236(insert button here) = Wind sword back, hakumen style slash barrage, finish with uppercut. "Highest Caliber!"
Generic rushdown specials:
236(insert button here) = Dash attack, two hits, extra input to slam down into ground. Like rock it.
263(insert button here) = Uppercut, launch height determined by weapon (can't be used without a weapon) Like volcanic viper.
41236(insert button here) = Get low to the ground, rush behind enemy, two hit combo, extra input to launch into the air. Like grand viper, but less spammable and less punishable.
63214(insert button here) = jump back to the wall, slam/cut into enemy. Like riot stamp but less spammable.
Finisher = 6321463214(insert button here) = "Unification of Arms! Fourteenth Caliber Strike!" Knock into air, five slashes with stylus, drop kick. They rebound, four slashes with graphing calculator, three slashes with greatsword, form green ball of energy over fist, ELLIOT....PAWNCH! to enemy's face. Astral Finish!
Now if I just knew what the buttons were.

Elliot... that seems a bit complex. Like, way complex. And how am I supposed to draw you fighting with a teensy little stylus?!

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Baaw...stupid complexity. I'll mentally work through it to streamline it a bit, but I still want those weapons. It shouldn't be too hard to streamline, I mean, pretty much every character in soul calibur 2 has like three different stances...Oh, I know.Dreamaniaccomic wrote:Elliot... that seems a bit complex. I'll make it so that when you have a certain weapon drawn, you can't use specific normals. Like, you can't do weak attacks with the greatsword, or heavy attacks with the stylus.
And Jake, come on, it'll either be obscured by my hand or a couple little pixels, it won't be that hard to draw.

Re: The Grand Unveiling!
Well, maybe you should just use the greatsword as a default weapon and take out the other two for specials. Y'know.
What do you expect from a lazy artist like me?XIVcaliber wrote: And Jake, come on, it'll either be obscured by my hand or a couple little pixels, it won't be that hard to draw.

Lazy people don't sprite for fighting games. We could have someone else do it.Dreamaniaccomic wrote:Well, maybe you should just use the greatsword as a default weapon and take out the other two for specials. Y'know.
