Invader Scurk

Post by InvaderScurk »

Haha! It's finally happened! With the tremendous help of Dr Neo Lao, I got my comic site up and running, and, after updating on Mondays and Fridays for a good two months or so, I finally have a reservoir of comics big enough to pitch my comic here! I currently have 25 pages up, so without further ado, here is a description of Invader Scurk.

To start with, if you haven't seen the Invader Zim TV series, some elements of my comic won't make sense. However, most people who see Invader Zim are fans of it, so I'm sure there's a dedicated, if small audience out there for me. If you are not a fan, and are planning to review my comic, then here is a general description for you.

Invader Scurk is an alien soldier, one of many sent out to the cosmos to subvert and conquer all the other species of the galaxy. At the start of the comic, he is returning to the flagship of his races' armada, to report to the two (rather silly) leaders of the campaign (and his whole species). In his society, class is determined by height, with the tallest guy being the leader. There are currently two leaders the exact same height. So Scurk gets back, and the leaders notice that he is almost as tall or even taller than them! This would mean that they would loose their power, so they naturally send him away to the furthest planet they can think of. And that is the spring board for my series. All his adventures will occur on his journey to the forsaken little mudball at the edge of the galaxy (Earth), and will continue on from there.

Now, for any of you who may know the Invader Zim series, I'll break it down with some show-specific jargon.

Scurk is one of the many invaders sent out in the Great Assigning. He returns to The Massive to report the success of his mission to the Tallest. Upon arrival, they realize that he is as tall or taller than them. Naturally, they freak out and decide to send him to Zim, hoping his "stupid" will kill Scurk off in short order. Being a successful invader, he gains access to veteran invader equipment, including a new ship and a new top-of-the-line SIR. Of course, the Tallest want to take out some insurance that he doesn't survive, and that's where things get interesting. And that is the spring board for my series. All his adventures will occur on his journey to the forsaken little mudball at the edge of the galaxy (Earth), and will continue on from there.

The comic is peppered with pop culture references that most people will get (300 reference, Team Fortress two reference), and some general, all around fun good humor. So please, check out my comic. My art started good and got better, and my Photoshop skills have gotten steadily better, so that my latest pages are top quality.
Here is a link to the first page. And my sig is also a link to the site: http://invaderscurk.comicgenesis.com/d/20090202.html Enjoy!

Oops, posted in a few other threads and bumped my comic off the top of the list. I did post in some good comic's threads though.

I know I already got acquainted with the comic, but I had no idea it was a parody of anything and I still like it.

GooseBump City - A comic about life... the life of toys anyway. (We still aren't doing anything new)
Shapes, the Unanimated Series - It's seriously just a square, a triangle, and a circle (It's arrived, but not ready to be shown)
Halloween Cameo Caper 2009 . . . Sign up.
Currently reading: Atavism - Cope wins 'cause he replied first (I can't believe it concluded!)
Brothers (and Sisters) in Joining:
Hydriatus | evelynp | Xaybiance The Weird | poporetto | ]Blaze Series | Derek Dragomir | piggylove1940 | Synaptic-misfires
(I'm only allowed five URL's, so I'll just rotate)

Invader Zim was an amazing cartoon: hilarious, profound, memorable, and highly quotable. It's a tough act to follow, especially when writing in a pre-existing cannon well-known for humor.

That said, I've enjoyed your work so far. You are quite faithful to the source (good in being recognizable in style and format, bad in that you may be infringing Vasquez's copyright*), which I appreciate. The scene where the Tallest freak out at his size made me laugh aloud. However, I've seen the source so I get the jokes, like you said, someone outside the cannon won't understand it as quickly. The art quality seems to vary, but a lot of it is pretty impressive and seems to be improving (particularly your backgrounds).

I enjoy homage pieces, just be aware that you are following up a class act and will have to be as good or better to keep a readership. Good luck!

*I don't pretend to know copyright law, but you might want to check it out before continuing.
