Once again, I'm trying to [shock, horror!] clean out my apartment. This time, I'm being a bit more rigorous about it, trying to approach it as if I'm moving house. It's not working - every time I pick through another stratum of paper, I get this twinge of guilt about removing those objects from their archeological context.
How did I get to this point? It's not as if I'm such a big pack rat. I just forget to throw stuff away. And I always strike up with nice people, who when they send me a CD or a small-press zine, add in some extras. Add to that the way I used to make many photocopies of stuff I had drawn, the endless doodling and sketching that my comics require, and the production of over 250 ROCR strips a year, plus White House in Orbit, Floor, odds and ends. Combined with my natural disorderliness, that makes for chaos in the apartment. (I am throwing out many doodles this time. I have to)
Now, after several hours, I can once again see a lot of table and desk space. But I haven't actually managed to reclaim any of it; when I move back the stuff that's scattered across the bedroom, it will all be filled up again.
The next step will be to sort through my collection comics and science fiction novels, and to flog off a lot of them. That should at least clear some cupboard space. I hope.
Unlike the last time, I haven't found any buried treasure in the form of old stories, although I may have rediscovered some missing bits from the ones I found last time. I'll keep you posted.
------------------
