You incorrectly assume that as a tech guy, I care about the Mac.

man, don't start, we just had one of those threads.

Old macs used to look a bit like modern toasters. that's pretty cool. i wonder if someone's made a toaster out of one yet. You can get imac fish tanks anyway.

Bah, I hate Macs. Give me a good, old-fashioned Whopper any day.

Yay, 25 years, but I've only physically had one mac for 3 years.

Though I've used macs going back to 1998

PC is totally much better than Mac in every aspect and don't anyone try to convince me otherwise!

it's not a toaster, but I do know somebody who uses old Macs as shelves... you stack two columns of them with boards in between.

I am a PC user myself and I think that first BW Mac looked extremely bo-ring to me. ...well. it's 25 years old after all. Still an innovation back then, but I wouldn't get addicted to it.

I'm stuck with my own PC that I love.

Ah, well, at the time you either had green text on a dark green background, orange text on a dark orange background or white text on a black background. Not so bad in that context.

Mind you, I always liked the green. It's still iconic, too. Just look at the Matrix.

It adds a lovely taste of irony to iTunes.

I put carpet on an old MAC once and used it as a doorstop.

But, really. I work for IBM. I can't really be seen saying anything good about MACs. It'd be like a Pepsi driver found with a coke in his beverage holder.

I do like how it's Microsoft, and not PC Manufacturers, who has had to combat the famously popular PC / Mac commercials. :D

Happy birthday MAC. I remember the APPLE IIe fondly.

Someday I'll have the money to afford a macbook...

...and then probably wish I got a Lenovo instead. Or maybe not; Who knows.

The best part of that old Mac was playing the greatest computer game ever made, Oregon Trail. I still laugh remembering siting in the classroom at one of those old computers and play that game. When the Indian would attack and shooting bears that was computer gaming at its best. When you got to Oregon and your whole family had died of dysentery. I also remember going through about 20 floppy discs looking at crappy clip art to add to the halve page essay I wrote. Man those were the glory days of computers. And all you mac haters can go suck a lemon!

when I was young, say about 8 or so we got a mac portable for home. i say portable instead of laptop because A. that was its name and B. if you'd put it on your lap it would have snapped your legs off. Well mine, but I was 8 and it was 25 pounds. the front part folded up to reveal a small screen, a keyboard and a trackball. I remember writing on that computer and playing the little games that came with it, like darts and asteroid. Also there were the 12 or so preprogramed sounds one could choose from for start up, including "Get away from her you bitch!" from Aliens and the one we used "i am completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly" from 2001, as said by HAL. This was really appropriate when the computer started... for lack of a better term, going insane. Didn't kill anyone or anything but it did keep crashing and restarting in an endless cycle, and every time it did it would utter that same phrase. It was hilarious although sad. I do miss that computer, it was fun.

thanks for that, it cracked me up. He was so right, the only thing that mattered in that game was speed, let all the kids die naked, have no food left and one or two ox was how you had to finished. And only tools took the toll road, you had to raft the river at the end.
There was something really fun about those early machines, If you wanted to do anything you had to type out the code. Or rewrite the program everytime you turned the machine on. The mac classic was my favorite, that tiny ass screen and mono color was awesome.
