Doodles 10 - Cutting a Double Figure

[The Way]

It's finally done! I got a new set of markers and I decided to play with them by sketching and coloring a really colorful picture of my girlfriend. Really happy with how it came out, even though it makes her look older.

Although this started out as just a practice doodle, my head started forming details of character and setting and plot before it was even complete.
I like the way my brain works.
Any thoughts from any of you?

I hate to say it but the thing that I first noticed was the breasts in this picture. Breasts are affected by clothing since they're pretty soft. Tight clothing will smush them down, I don't think I've ever seen an instance where they were perfectly detailed. They also hang, are affected by gravity, etc; there are loads of tutorials just on this if you look online.

You're already starting to vary character positions some, you're moving the arms around and that's a good start. What you might want to do is go to a place with lots of people like a mall or hallway and see how people stand and interact with each other. See where they shift their weight, how they use their body language to accentuate what they're doing.

The biggest thing I think you should work on is varying faces. You're starting to vary body shapes and some facial features like hair and that's good, but a lot of what makes someone unique is their head. Give people big noses, square jaws, little button noses, long faces, short faces, giant bushy eyebrows; you should draw from life if possible, pictures work in a pinch. Then you can figure out how to stylize it down to make it work with what you have. Try putting more variation in than just eye shape, hair style, and head accessories .

And of course work on anatomy . Find a good resource that breaks down for you how heads and bodies are proportioned, how muscles connect, all that good stuff. You also look like you're drawing some of the body before putting clothes on and that's something you should definitely do more of.

In all, try drawing some new things you haven't before, you'll be surprised what can help you grow.

I've tried that; it's no help. They take the clothes off too quickly for you to learn how to draw boob-shirt relationships properly.
