correct, and thanks for the kind words KWill.
Also in addition to that comic I write for another and there are several people around here who can't draw but they write for an artist.

Well, it seemed that YOU were lumping yourself into the 'just a reader' category as everyone with comics tends to go 'hai I'm making a...'

Like, I introduced myself by saying that I was trying to do a fantasy comic. Yay, another fantasy comic. Fortunately, I'm a writer first...

Also, +2 Legostar reader here. ^_^

But yeah, you have to be really witty to pull off the whole Lego comic thing. Irregular Webcomic does it, Legostar Galactica does it... mooooost people besides that don't do it. Of course, you don't need to be able to draw well. There's other things.

1) Comic writers.
2) Comic colorists.
3) 3D comics. (which isn't drawing)
4) Photocomics of any sort.

Now, admittedly photo based comics usually end up crappy and same with 3D comics or sprite comics or anything that doesn't involve doing much art, but if your writing is strong you can do ANYTHING.

More or less.

>.>

But yeah, I already read two Lego comics, people have to be pretty good to beat them.

Guess i DID put myself in the 'just a reader' catagory. hehe

I agree. Well, Irregular and yours have slightly different themes, so they do feel different, but I've seen other stories done with action figures or Lego, and I've never found any that are really worth following. Haven't finished Legostar's archives yet, actually. I started from the beginning. ^_^

Pixel art is hard and requires artistic skills, though. 8-)

Hi everyone.

I thought I'd creep out of the shadows all creepy like to introduce myself. I'm new here and I'm fairly new to webcomicing as well. I'm mostly doing it to improve my skills as an artist because my drawing is kinda bleh. I'm also doing it because I like to tell stories and hope to tell a cool one through a comic. *thumbs up!* xD
Sooooooo...yeah...that's all there is to it.....*hesitant thumbs up*

Hey, yeah, I know the feeling. Most of us probably do. Your art might not be as blah as you think. ^_^ But if you tell a great story not everyone's going to care if the art isn't the Mona Lisa.

I mean, I'm doing it to improve as an artist too, and if you put your mind to it, you'll start improving pretty fast. (thumbs up)

Hey thanks! ^^
It's cool to know that others do this to get better art skills too. And honestly I think we are our own worst critic. I do hope that the story will be good enough so that the art won't matter as much. *lol*

Yep, that we are...

And hey! Don't be so hard on yourself! I glanced over your comic and thought I could definately see things that you could improve, I definately didn't think it looked that bad! You have some nice professional looking simple shading and some of your drawings look like I could see them in a printed manga. We can ALL get better, even the professionals, but I've read online manga that look far uglier. ;) The simple shading and constant style are pulled off very well. Maybe experiment more with digital screentones and gradients to add more depth. Your people will get better with practice. But it's definately not that bad! Not bleh at all! (I was looking through other comics today randomly, so really, I know. I saw a few pretty bleh ones. ;))

Oh Wow, thank you so much! :shucks:
I know what you mean about my people needing more depth though. I'm just not very knowledgeable with shading.... or doing screentones (shame) ...but I'm trying to learn. ^_^ I really appreciate the fact that you went and looked at my comic though. That was really nice of you. <3 Your advice means a lot!
I read your comic and the art is really beautiful. I love the way that you color, and it looks like you put a lot of effort into each page. The characters seem interesting, and the plot seems really in depth. I love the way you draw elves. Nice! ^_^

Hee, this is not me bragging, but if you think it looks good NOW, just wait.

I just want to make something that looks good and reads well. The page for Thursday is likely the most effort I've spent so far and the result was just worth it. I plan to redraw the first three or four pages because I don't find they hold up to the standard I'm now holding myself to, now that I see this as a real project. Thank you for reading it! As I mentioned, I'm doing this for the learning process too and I think the improvement over even my 14 pages is noticable to anyone watching for a development. Some of your pages look as good as printed manga I've read though, so I really think you can go somewhere. Things like proportion improvements and depth all just come with practice. ;) They did for me, wow, my early art... ow... And a regular updating comic is one of the best forms of practice besides school you'll get! I'm sure you'll tell a cooler story than me, too... that won't be hard. >.> I'm not very knowledgable. I just keep drawing, over and over again, and wow, my early art SUCKED. You don't suck.

Thanks for reading it, though! :D

I look forward to seeing future pages of your comic! I really enjoy the coloring technique, I find that it adds to the fantasy feeling of the story and you certainly can't go wrong with beautiful elves. ^_^ I guess I have a thing for good-looking elf guys. XD I'm also interested to see how the plot is going to unfold. It seems as though you are a good story teller thus far (you grasped my attention) so I honestly think you'll tell a great story with your comic. ^_^

I also had to redraw the first three pages of my comic because I drew them awhile ago and when I picked it up again...well...the art just wasn't up to par. I think it's good to set some standards for yourself and practice certainly is a big part of improvement. I've seen so many artists improve drastically because of webcomicing and I wanted the same for my art. Plus it's fun!
Thanks again for your feedback on my comic. It means a lot. <3

If you ever want more feedback on your comic you can definitely pm me and ask me what I think! ^_^

Sup everybody?!? I've been in a bubble for quite some time with a new job, schooling and lately making a submission for Zuda comics (I'm still waiting to see if I'm selected). I mostly write fantasy/sci-fi/horror/thriller types. I'm not a fan-boy at all. I don't know the names of a lot of comic writers and artists. I usually pull my creative fodder from other mediums, books, songs and movies. So with me taking the summer off from school to study up on marketing strategies for my last submission, I've started to come out of my self containment and I am amazed by all the cool stuff out here on the web... recently I got addicted to Yirmumah, HerosByNight and the ZeFrank Show! I'll prob post a thread asking community to give me their fav's that are more close to what I usually write.

I have a lot of my old works, mostly the HaloGeist demo, on my website if anyone wants to take a gander: www.riverhelixstudios.com

Heya, River Helix! Welcome to ComicGenesis! Good luck getting into Zuda. Highly impressed by the HaloGeist demo... the art in there is danged professional looking! And holy crap, but that was one intense story... very well done. o_O Good luck with Zuda, definately.
you certainly can't go wrong with beautiful elves. ^_^
(giggles)

Sure you can. Most people actually think having elves can be pretty cheesy but I'm not following traditional elfdom... sure, most of them APPEAR beautiful, but not all of them, just most elect to appear as they are expected to. From the artist's point of view, that means--people expect to see elves as tall, graceful with pointy ears. The lable of 'E.L.F.', mind, extends to more than pointy eared graceful immortal kind, and so to make it easier... all E.L.F.s have either a facial piercing or glowing eyes, generally amber, and as many as possible have pointed ears, unless they hide them, like Shay does... hence the other physical clues. Of course, all of these CAN be hidden... lalala.

So, with that in mind, my blue haired MC is not an elf. Or an E.L.F.. He is human, he's just a pretty boy, which is hilarious because I didn't even like Legolas, I was a roughed up kinda guy gal. Aragorn all the way! And Faramir. And GIMLI! And hobbits! Woo. But nooo, somehow my main character isn't even the kinda guy I like. I suspect it has something to do with my inability to draw very masculine guys...

Oh well.

Can't go wrong with pretty boys, right? And I know there's a lot of girls out there who enjoy reading fantasy and probably get tired of all the guy-pleasing fantasy women... might as well give some nice lookin' guys for the contrary. Should probably learn to draw muscle guys too, though.

Hello all~
I'm new here and have just started on my first webcomic.
I'd point you towards it, but I'm pretty sure that it needs quite a bit of work (and a comic or two in the archive) before I start pointing people over. (It might help to wait until it starts working too~)
But I'm here, ready to start working on a comic filled with mad science, magic, and a man with a toaster for a head!

XD Welcome, Zaaane. Looks like you've already got a good catchphrase going on, eh? That's one thing I'm having trouble with, stupid serious stories, also, I should leave forums alone until I get my next comic up... XD

I wish you the best of luck. Webcomicking is a great way to improve your artistic skills and your writing. :D Plus deadlines really are helpful things... heehee.

Yeah, I just recently started comicking in an OC art tournament on deviantart and decided that I'd like to try to do it in a bit less of a competition setting.
