Okay, have been a bit delayed this weekend, so now for my introduction to a fake campaign. Note, this is being written on the fly with the characters being introduced rolled up at that point. So I will talk out and introduce a 4 party campaign intro to an introductory fight. Did that make any sense? There is conversation and things noticed that I would have players do and make checks for, but for the sake of dramatics...
You stand over the broken body of one of the raiders. Just moments before you were taking a short walk before you rest from the day's journey. A tiefling starting out on a path of redemption for you ancestors mistakes. Hoping to rid the world of the demonic curse plaguing your people. Spent years training amonst the divine order of paladins in the capital and set out, pledging to bring salvation to all. Now this.
They boldly struck just after the evening meal as the sun passed below the treeline. The non existent defence of the village port stood no chance. After all the few men on watch were looking out for wild animals attracted to the day's recent catch. They were ill equipped and ill prepared for an attack by organized raiders. And why would they? After all the country of Temdrake has excellent security with the government commissioned army always on patrol.
The lobby of the small inn's floor is pooled with blood. Fortunately, it is all of the kobolds. The strong building proved to be the ideal position to take a defence and evacuate the women and children. The few that got in were quickly struck down. You look over at your travelling companion, a strong cleric of the same order as you. The two of you first met while you were having trouble maintaining a spiritual focus and control. If not for the cleric's spiritual assistance, you doubt that you would have had the resolve to complete your training. The young cleric Garosam, or at least think young with your limited knowledge of those dragonborn, appears to be distracted by something.
"Do you smell that?"
Sniffing the air, you notice nothing at first. Then it starts to to waif in. Smoke weeping in from the roof.
"GARO, think they got the roof lit?"
"Yeah, we got to get these people out of here Kiroth, but where?"
"The docks! They can hide in the boats, we can hold them at the landfall!"
"Everybody, stand between us, cover your heads with whatever you can!"
As the smoke thickens, some of the other men defending in the inn pull off the cubboard doors of the bar and hand them to the women to hold over their heads.
Kiroth, goes to to door, "alright a circle and move towards the dock!"
Opening the door, you see some bodies in the ground, those of the men whom were scattered and got flanked by the verminous kobold. To the right however you spot a small group of the surviving defenders. Worse, most appear badly wounded and they are surrounded. Only the female dwarf, Nornbera whom is your ranger guide, still appear able to fight. But the odds do not look good.
You hear garosam tell the other men escorts, "you guide these people to the docks, they need our help over there." He starts to run, you running along side them.
"I think our quest might end a bit early," you say knowing that this fight will not end well.
"Don't give up faith, look over there!" as garosam points to a building near the fight.
Looking, you see peering around a corner hidden in shadow, the essentric halfling warlock whom is staying at the same in as you. Seeing you, he gives the thumbs up. As some of the kobolds turn to defend against your attack, you can all roll initiatives.
World workings, a form of democracy/communism, with no limit to terms. Current ruler has been in power for 37 years. There is a vote for each main area of populace; religion, farmers, merchant, manufacturers, military, artisan. (would expand as I thought up more). Each votes within their caste for whom they want for leader, and the winner from each caste is what is tallied. The current leader, in an effort to unite previously fighting castes, formed an integrated security force which allowed all to be secure in positions and equally assist all castes in their respective functions.
The new races, and how they fit.
Tiefling. A long time ago, unknown when, an evil demon was awoken and attempted to overthrow and terrorize the country. A brave adventurers formed together and became a grand army. Together they overthrew this dark force. Unfortunately, the demon was able to bestow a curse on the army. Since then, ever so often, one decended from the heroes, gives birth to a tiefling, infected by the demon. Regardless of race, although would share some slight features of the partents. So, in my world, they would not be a race so much, but one whom is born with the curse of the demon.
The Dragonborn would be a civilization almost driven to extinction by the same army, the few survivors fled and encountered the humanoid civilization, and banded together to defeat this great enemy.
Eladrin are (or were) cousins of the elves whom had decided to sever ties with technology, development and other vices of civilization to pursue a more spiritualistic approach to existence. For thousands of years, they lived in isolation until the Demon came, and then, they once again joined with the other humanoids.
That is usually how I intro my campaigns, something exciting or story wise. This combat would move quite smoothly with the new rules and soon back into the story again. I did other playtests, and as a DM, it is an excellent system. A few things I still need to review, but overall, very fun for those that want to just tell a story. Hope you enjoyed it!

Re: Example 4th ed story intro
Well, to keep it like one of my dnd games, I rolled stuff for whom does what, and it was all done as I typed for less than an hour. mainly a test to see how well the new system works. Who knows, maybe I will keep adding to it and make it a short story... if I have time, too many on the go already. Anyways, all are free to use my example if they wish or take from it for whatever.
