I speak English, French (Joual mostly), Spanish (mainly SA), Irish Gaelic and Ojibway. I took 3 years of Latin in high school, so I can follow any of the Romance languages provided it's in written form so I have have time to decipher it.
What I love about the Ojibway language is that we have a 4th person form that more or less means "same as 3rd person, only not as important."

Well 80 isn't really 80 either. quatre-vingts is literally four-twenties.fnyunj wrote: (funny thing about French: IIRC - There's no "70" or "90" - those numbers, when spoken, are literally 60-and-10, 60-and-11, 60-and12, up through 60-and-19, then, 80, etc. . . and then 80-and-9, 80-and-10, 80-and-11, 80-and-12, come on French speakers, you with me? What's up with that?)
also in the Swiss French speaking Lausanne, they use the words septante, huitante and nonante (not neufante) for the numbers 70, 80 and 90.
I used to speak french well enough to lay into some poor sucker who forgot my order at a restaurant. however that was more than 15 years ago.
Arh, French. Those classes were probably the start of me dropping out of the teaching schedule. I just felt so dumb...

english being my first language, I am more than proficient with it (barring blatant ignorance of capitalization). french, I learned in my youth, and just recently discovered that I understand it nearly fluently when spoken to me, or when reading, but I can't speak or write a damned word back.
briefly took spanish in high school. all it did was confuse french, spanish and latin in my head, so now I can't really do much with any of them.
